NSIC Women's Basketball Players of the Week

NSIC North  Division Player of the Week
#12 Cassie Askvig (F, So., 6-2, Minot, N.D. / Minot HS)
University of Mary
- Averaged 20.5 points, 15.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 2.0 assists
- She made 15-of-28 shots from the floor and was 9-of-12 at the line
- Tied her career-high with 25 points in a 65-51 win over UMD and tied the Marauders NCAA-era record for rebounds with 18
 -She also had five blocks, made two assists, was 9-of-15 from the field and 6-of-7 at the free throw line against the Bulldogs
- Askvig wrapped up the weekend with 16 points and 12 rebounds in a 65-56 loss to SCSU
- She added three blocks and two assists and now owns four double doubles this season
- Currently ranks ninth in the NSIC in scoring (14.0 ppg), third in rebounds (9.7 rpg), ninth in blocks (1.5 bpg) and 12^th in 3-pointers per game (1.5)

Augustana
- Averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 steals, 3.5 assists and 2 blocks in two road wins
- Scored 12 points, snagged six rebounds, distributed five assists and accounted for five steals and two blocked shots in win at SMSU
- Added 18 points, seven rebounds, six steals, two blocks and two assists in Sunday’s 76-65 win at Sioux Falls
- Earns her second straight and fourth career NSIC Player of the Week honor

- The 12-0 start to the season is the best start in Augustana women’s basketball program history - In both games over the weekend, Augustana had four different athletes score in double figures  - The Vikings shot 50 percent from the field in both contests over the weekend  - Augustana leads the NSIC and is ranked 7th nationally averaging 83.9 ppg - The Vikings lead the conference in 12 different statistical categories

- In Saturday’s game at Southwest Minnesota State, Logan O’Farrell scored 12 points, snagged six rebounds, distributed five assists and accounted for five steals and two blocked shots. She added 18 points, seven rebounds, six steals, two blocks and two assists in Sunday’s win at Sioux Falls - Presley O’Farrell tallied a career-high 24 points in the win over SMSU on Saturday. She added four rebounds, three assists, three steals and a blocked shot - Senior Naomi Rust scored in double figures in both contests over the weekend. She contributed 12 points on Saturday and 14 points on Sunday - Paige Peterson also scored 12 points in both games over the weekend - In Sunday’s contest at USF, Shelby Selland had 12 points, five rebounds and three blocks

- Bemidji State split in its final weekend of the 2017 calendar year with a 60-52 win over Upper Iowa and a 47-33 loss to Winona State - BSU overcame an eight-point deficit after the first quarter and outscored UIU in the second and fourth quarters, 34-14 - The Beavers shot 35.6 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc while holding the Peacocks to 3-of-16 shooting from 3-point range over the final three quarters - Bemidji State trailed Winona State by just two points at halftime but were only able to total 10 points in the second half of Sunday’s loss - BSU shot 24.5 percent from the field and 100 percent (6-of-6) from the free throw line while also scoring 18 points in the paint - On the weekend, the Beavers shot 29.6 percent from the field, 80.0 percent from the free throw line and pulled down 39.5 boards per game

- Freshman guard Brooklynn Bachmann, with 24 points, and senior guard Mikayla Larson, with 18 points, combined for 42 of BSU’s 60 points against Upper Iowa - Bachmann averaged 15.5 points per game to lead BSU on the weekend while Larson scored 11.0 points per game - Sophomore center Sydney Arrington came one point and one rebound shy of a double-double to lead BSU in both categories Sunday against Winona State - Senior forward Sam Adamich led BSU with 7.0 rebounds per game

-The Golden Bears dropped both conference games this weekend, falling to #19 Northern State by 15 and to MSU Moorhead by six -The Bears shot 40.7% from the floor and 36.8% from three against NSU, which are the best percentages they have posted since defeating Upper Iowa on December 8 -Concordia won the turnover battle in both contests, capitalizing on 22 points off of turnovers in both games combined

-Junior Anna Schmitt led the Bears offensively in both games, scoring 21 against Northern State and 15 against MSU Moorhead. The Waconia native also tallied 11 assists and nine rebounds throughout the contests -Sophomore forward Brianna Miller had a career-high 15 points against NSU and then 14 points the following day against MSUM. Miller also had a career-high eight rebounds and four assists against MSUM -Senior Haydn Becker registered a career-high 14 points and five rebounds on Saturday against Northern State

University of Mary Marauders

Team Notes
- The Marauders claimed a second straight NSIC win with a 65-51 win over the Bulldogs. UMary outscored UMD 20-5 to end the game. - UMary held a 55-30 rebounding advantage over UMD and outshot the Bulldogs 43.9 percent to 28.8 percent - Fighting from behind much of the game, UMary scored the final 14 points of the first half against SCSU to tie the game 28-28 at intermission. The Marauders were within 55-52 of the Huskies late in the game but SCSU went 12-of-14 at the free throw line late in the fourth quarter to claim the win - In consecutive games, the Marauders gave up just 96 points, 45 to Minot State and 51 to Minnesota Duluth - Sophomore forwards from Minot, ND, Gabbie Bohl and Cassie Askvig combined to score 39 points against UMD and 37 against SCSU - The Marauders just wrapped up a stretch of playing 8-of-11 games at the McDowell Activity Center

- Cassie Askvig averaged 20.5 points, 15.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 2.0 rebounds as the Marauders split a pair of home Northern Sun games over the weekend. She made 15-of-28 shots from the floor and was 9-of-12 at the line - Askvig tied her career-high with 25 points against Minnesota Duluth and tied the Marauders NCAA-era record for rebounds with 18. She also had five blocks, made two assists, was 9-of-15 from the field and 6-of-7 at the free throw line - Askvig wrapped up the weekend with 16 points and 12 rebounds against SCSU. She added three blocks and two assists - Gabbie Bohl averaged 17.5 points. 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in the Marauders weekend split with UMD and SCSU. She posted her second double double of the season with 14 points and ten rebounds, blocked four shots and had three assists in a win over the Huskies - Bohl followed with 21 points, six rebounds and two blocks against SCSU. She is 3rd in the NSIC in scoring (18.2 ppg), 12th in rebounding (6.7 rpg), 9th in field goal percentage (.524) and 10th in blocked shots (1.4 bpg)

University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles

- The Golden Eagles picked up their second win of the season with an 89-61 victory over Upper Iowa Sunday. Minnesota Crookston came close Saturday but Winona State used a 25-16 run in the third quarter in order to come away with a close 74-73 victory over the Golden Eagles - Minnesota Crookston tied the school record of 15 three-pointers Saturday versus Winona State - The 15 three-pointers ties the school record which was previously set Nov. 20, 2013 against Finlandia University - The Golden Eagles had a big weekend from beyond the arc with 28 three-pointers - They shot 28-of-55 for 50.9 percent on the weekend - The Golden Eagles are fourth in NSIC for free throw percentage at 76.6 percent - Minnesota Crookston is fifth in NSIC for blocked shots with 4.5  - The Golden Eagles are sixth in the NSIC for three-pointers made per game at 6.6

- Caitlin Michaelis averaged 17.0 points per game and was 10-of-19 from the field for 52.6 percent - Micaela Noga notched 14.5 points per game on the weekend as she shot 10-of-18 from the field for 55.6 percent - Paige Weakley averaged 10.5 points per game on the weekend and shot 7-of-10 from beyond the arc for 70.0 percent

- Emma Boehm has led the team in scoring each of the last three nights. She posted a weekend-high 15 points in the setback to Minot State - Katie Stark tied her career marks in points and rebounds vs. Minot State. She posted 14 points and nine rebounds to go along with three assists - Sarah Grow shot 60.0 percent from the floor while averaging 9.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks

Her weekend was highlighted with a team-high 15 points and four rebounds against MSU Moorhead. - Junior Monica Muth posted 8.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She registered her second straight and third double-double of the season against MSU Moorhead with a team-best 12 rebounds and 11 points. - Sophomore Taylor Klug rounded out the top performers with 8.0 points per contest. The guard netted 11 points with two rebounds and two assists against MSU Moorhead.

- Minot State posted their first NSIC weekend sweep since Feb. 13-14, 2015 with victories over St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth - The Beavers shot 46.4% percent from the floor and 75.6% from the free throw line while assisting on 25 of 46 field goals made - The Beaver defense limited SCSU and UMD to 38.4% shooting from the field a combined total of 20 2nd chance points and 18 turnovers - Minot State dominated on the boards and in the paint, outrebounding opponents by a margin of 75-56 and outscoring opponents 62 to 34 in the paint

- Holly Johnson averaged 22 points and 6.5 boards while scoring a season-high 26 points to lead the Beavers in a 71-67 win over UMD - Madison Wald averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2 assists, including grabbing a career-high 8 rebounds in win over UMD - Kristal Flowers scored 10 points and tallied 14 rebounds to clinch her fourth double-double of the season

- The Northern State University women’s basketball team opened the week at No. 19 in the WBCA Top-25 Poll - The Wolves notched two double figure victories over Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State - NSU shot 48.8 percent from the floor, 44.0 percent from the arc, and 81.1 percent from the foul line in the two wins -They out-scored their opponents by 19.5 points per game, and out-rebounded their opponents by 21.5 boards per game - Northern averaged 22.5 assists, 6.0 steals, and 5.5 blocks per game over the weekend

- Mariah Szymanski averaged 24.5 points while hitting two new career-high scoring marks - Szymanski posted 18 for a new career-high against Wayne State then tied the USF Division II scoring record with 31 points against Augustana - Kaely Hummel extended her streak of double-digit scoring games to 12 with 22 points against Wayne State and 11 against Augustana - After going 8-for-8 at the free throw line over the weekend, Hummel has now hit 23 consecutive free throws - Jacey Huinker picked up six and eight rebounds in this weekend’s games, keeping her season average 10.0 per game

- This was the third game this season that Tori Wortz had led the team in scoring as she scored a career-high 22 against the Beavers, but the first since Nov. 18 - Wortz has now scored in double figures in eight of the team’s 11 games after getting 14 against the University of Mary - The team is 6-2 this season when she scores in double figures - She averaged 18 points per game on the week while shooting 47 percent from the field and 45 percent from three-point range - This was the fourth time that Andrea Thomas has led the team in scoring this season after her 19 points against the Marauders - She has scored in double figures in eight games and has a pair of contests this season with 18 or more points

- Senior Hannah McGlone recorded doubles-doubles in both games over the weekend and averaged 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and leads NSIC in rebounding (10.7) while ranking sixth in scoring (15.2) - Junior Kayla Schaefer led all players with a season-high 20 points at Crookston - Junior Rachel Novotny led the team in points (15) and rebounds (13) at Bemidji and has at least 10 rebounds in three of last four games
