NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championship set for Friday-Saturday in St. Paul
The 2017 NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13 at Sea Foam Stadium on the campus of Concordia University, St. Paul.  The NSIC Student Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) will be teaming up with World Soles to collect shoes that will be donated to those in need or recycled.

NSIC Athletes of the Week

NSIC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Josh Barrows  (So., Helena, Mont., Helena)
- Ran a season's best time of 53.34 in winning the 400-meter hurdles at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays
- His time is a provisional qualifier and ranks first in the NSIC
- Set a personal best time of 1:51.18 in the 800m taking third in the event
- Was his second provisional qualifying mark and also ranks first in the NSIC and 22nd in Division II
- Named NSIC Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season (4/25/17)

Sioux Falls

- Set a new NSIC and USF record in the Decathlon in the first event of the NSIC Championships
- Scored an NCAA provisional mark with 6975 points
- Broke the 2012 NSIC record of 6968 held by Minnesota State's Tandy Juell
- His score ranks as the ninth best in Division II this season and best in the NSIC

Top Performer (s)
- Josh Barrows finished with a season's best time of 53.34 in the 400-meter hurdles and finished in first in the race. Barrows' time is a provisional qualifier and ranks first in the NSIC.
- Barrows also set a personal best time of 1:51.18 in the 800-meters taking third in the event. Barrows time was a provisional qualifying mark and his time ranks first in the NSIC and 20th in Division II.
- Glen Ellingson put together a strong effort en route to a first place finish in the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:56.07. 
- Peter Schukking finished first in the javelin with a personal best throw of 166-01.

- Antony Odera took ninth in the long jump at the Bear Cat Twilight on Wednesday before winning the event at the Meet of the UnSaintly over the weekend
- Caleb Troe chopped off almost nine seconds from his own school record in the 5000 meter run as he claimed fifth with a time of 15:08.57.

-The men’s team grabbed five finishes inside the top-5 over the two events

- In a battle between teammates in the 3,000 meter run, Derek Myers claimed first with a time of 9:04.07. Placing just behind was Steven Gordon in a clocking of 9:12.54
-  Marceau Jovin won the 110 meter hurdles by clearing the barriers in just 14.97 seconds
-  The Marauders third track title came in the 4 x 400 meter relay where teammates Colton Stoltz, Connor Graves, Zack Graves and Josh Wolfekuhle combined to post a mark of 3:24.85
- In a dead heat in the high jump, Jack Lamb edged out teammate Sam Mackedanz. Both cleared the bar at 6-6. Lamb claimed the title after being the first to clear the winning height
- Tyrell Rosencranz claimed the triple jump title, sailing 6.99 meters to win the event by nearly five inches. He would also claim third in the triple jump with a top mark of 14.06 meters
- The Northern Sun leader in the discus, Andrew Dubiel placed third in the event at the Tune Up with an NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 170-1/4. Currently he ranks 15th in the nation

- The Marauders captured five titles and recorded one NCAA provisional qualifying mark at the NDSU Tune Up, the final meet before the NSIC championships

 Senior Brian Lee also had a noteworthy day as he generated a 52'-03.75" toss in the shot put, which was good for fifth place, but ranks as the top effort in the NSIC at the moment. Lee also placed fourth in the hammer throw (162'-11")
- Junior Logan Rubeck, who was fresh off competing at the NSIC Outdoor Decathlon Championships, and sophomore Ryan Tolkinen did the honors for UMD with Rubeck winning the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.66 and Tolkinen prevailing in the 400-meter hurdles, coming in at 54.82
- Rubeck also finished 3rd in the javelin with a toss of (161'-11"), while teammate Bradford Owens finished in second with a mark of (167'-8")

- Alex Campbell earned first place in the high jump with a leap of 6-10.75 which ties him for the ninth best mark in DII this season
-Tanner Ogren finished first in the 200m dash with a time of 21.94 and finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 10.81

- Junior Brian Huber won three events to lead MSUM at Masanz Classic, including recording NCAA provisional qualifying jump in long jump at 23-9.5, which is second-best in NSIC
- Other winners included Brady Speicher (800), senior Cody Christ (1,500), freshman Nadir Yusuf (5,000), sophomore Jonas Matzen (high jump) and senior Devin Strack (triple jump)
Team Notes
- Senior Cody Christ is ranked first in the NSIC in the 5,000-meter run in 14:19.87 and second in the 10,000 (30:25.43)
- Senior Brady Speicher is ranked first in the NSIC and eighth nationally in the 1,500-meter run in 3:46.23 with Josh Young second at 3:46.46
- Young is ranked second in the NSIC in the 800 (1:52.07)
- Brian Huber is second in the NSIC in the long jump (23-9.5), third in the NSIC in the 100 (10.62), and fourth in the 200 (21.80)

- Tanner Gust broke the school record in the men’s hammer throw with a toss of 168-feet-2 and finished with a personal best throw of 127-11 in the discus, finishing second and third respectively
- Dylan Harvey won the men’s 400-hurdles with a time of 57.45 seconds and ran on both the men’s 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams that captured titles
- Daniel Daffinrud had a pair of third-place finishes (100 and 200) and ran on both winning relays
- Jose Drew also ran a leg on both winning relay teams, helping the 4x100 to first with a time of 43.30 and the 4x400 to the title with a time of 3:25.04

-Minot State had three champions and five third-place finishes at the meet
-Gust’s school record was the first school record broken by the Beavers in 2017

- Adam Leach won the 1500m run for the Wolves finishing with a time of 4:03.54 in the event.
- Zachary Ulmer continued the distance events winning the 800m run with a time of 1:55.87
- Luke Wietgrefe finished second overall in the 400m dash with a time of 49.84
- TJ Hochstetler finished sixth from the NSIC Multis with 6,049 points, earning three team points for the Wolves
- Bryce Malsam landed in eighth overall with 5,814 points, bringing the team point total to four

- The Wolves recorded two event wins from the NDSU Tune-up as multiple student-athletes looked to improve their times and rankings heading into the NSIC Championships
- Northern took over the 400m dash with three Wolves in the top-5 including Luke Wietgrefe, Zachery Six, and Romario Thomas
- Four Wolves competed from the NSIC Multi Events in Mankato with two notching team points heading into the Championships

- Teddy Frid broke the school and conference records while winning the NSIC men’s decathlon championship
- Frid’s 6,975 points ranks ninth in Division II this year and all but guarantees him of his first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships
- Jacob Zebedee cleared 5.06 meters (16 feet-7.25 inches) to finish third at the Dakota Relays, a provisional qualifying mark that places him eighth in Division II this season
- Derrick Sheppard came within a foot of breaking the USF record in the hammer throw with a 52.71 meters (172-11)
Team Notes
- Recorded seven all-time top 10 marks in USF history over the weekend
- Broke one record and hit five provisional qualifying marks
- Hit three marks that rank in the top 10 of NCAA Division II this season

Top Performers
-The men's 4x100 relay team of Dallin Finley, Ben Ryan, Quadri Busari and Gabe Galamue set a school record at the Dakota Relays with a blistering time of 41.36 to finish in second place
-SMSU's 4x400 relay team ran a season best 3:20.45 to record a third place finish
- Ben Ryan ran 11.20 in the 100 meters to finish in fourth place
-Chris Kveseth and Bashir Aidrus both ran personal bests in the 1,500 meters, with Kveseth running 4:09.41 to finish 21st, while Aidrus was right behind in 22nd with a time of 4:09.84
-At the MSU Twilight, Josh Behning and Alex Weis each highlighted the day for the men's team capturing first place in the discus and shot put respectively
-Behning won the discus with a toss of 48.19m, while Weis placed third at 47.23m
-Weis recorded a toss of 14.68m in the shot put to earn first place, while Behning finished fourth at 13.96m
-Weis also finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 53.08m

- Sophomore Robert Sullivan placed third in NSIC Decathlon with 6,369 points, an NCAA provisional qualifying mark
- Senior Josh Spenner breaks own school record in pole vault clearing 15’ 7 ¼” at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays – NCAA provisional qualifying mark
- Spenner also placed second in javelin throw at 160’ 2”
Habib Jallow – (Freshman, Dallas, TX) – Jallow claimed a second place finish in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in a personal best time of 55.33 seconds at the Howard Wood Relays.  His marks ranks 7th in the NSIC.
 
Men’s Field – Josh Spenner – (Senior, Columbus, NE) – Spenner bettered his own school record in the pole vault to lead the Wayne State College men's outdoor track and field team Friday and Saturday at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  Spenner, a senior from Columbus Scotus Central Catholic HS, cleared 15' 7 ¼" Friday to eclipse his previous school mark of 15' 6 ½" set last May at the NSIC Championships.  His mark was good for eighth place and an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.  Spenner also claimed a second place finish in the javelin at 160' 2".
