Augustana's Oliva Montez Brown repeats at NSIC Pentathlon Champion

MANKATO, Minn. – Augustana sophomore Olivia Montez Brown repeated as the NSIC Pentathlon Champion as the 2016-17 NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship got underway on Sunday from Myers Field House in Mankato, Minnesota.  Montez Brown improved her NCAA Provisional score and set a personal best score in the pentathlon as she finished with 3838 points.   
 
Montez Brown finished 254 points ahead of Wakpor Ighovojah  of the Concordia-St. Paul, who scored 3584 points.  Montez Brown started the day by winning the 60m hurdles with a personal record time of 8.62.  She followed that up with 747 points in the high jump (5-3.25) with the second highest jump.  She tied for the third longest throw in the shot put with a heave of 34-3.25 for 559 points and won the long jump with a leap of 19-1.50, scoring 798 points.
 
In the 800m run, Montez Brown finished fourth with a time of 2:26.07 to end the day with 3838 points fall just 72 points short of the NSIC record set by Heather Miller (3910) in 2010.   
 
In all, the top seven finishers in the pentathlon scored over the NCAA provisional mark of 3285 in the competition. 

The NSIC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships continue Friday and Saturday, February 24-25 from Myers Field House in Mankato, Minnesota.
