2015-16 Noel Olson Award Recipients
Marv Bachmeier - University of Minnesota Crookston

Marv Bachmeier spent over 30 years working at the University of Minnesota Crookston and followed up his tenure by volunteering his time at various events over the past 17 years.  Bachmeier started at Minnesota Crookston in 1968 as head men’s basketball coach. In 1976, he succeeded Herschel Lysaker as the university’s Athletic Director and remained in that position until his retirement in June of 1999. His 31-year career at UMC saw many changes, including the transition from junior college competition to the NCAA Division II level and, ultimately, becoming a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Bachmeier may have retired in 1999, but his service to the University did not end there.  Bachmeier has been instrumental in assisting with game management at UMC since that time, volunteering at football and basketball games and helping out at various other events.  He has also worked with the UMC Teambackers, a program he helped form that has since raised over $2 million dollars for athletic scholarships since its inception. In 1991, Bachmeier and his wife Diane spearheaded the UMC Teambacker Golf Classic which has been a staple of the fundraising for over 25 years.  For his decitated service, Bachmeier has had an athletic scholarship named in his honor.
