NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship set for Fri.-Sat in Mankato, Minnesota
The 2016 NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place on Friday and Saturday, February 26-27 at Myers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato. Field events begin Friday at noon followed by track events at 3 p.m. Saturday will have field events begin at 10 a.m. and finals in track events at 1 p.m. The awards ceremony is scheduled for approximately 4:30 p.m. All-Conference performers shall consist of the top three place winners in each event and the members of the top two relay teams from the conference meet. NSIC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
- Ryan Johnson (Throws, Sr., Amery, Wis. / Amery HS) - St. Cloud State
- Placed fifth in the weight throw at the Snowshoe Open at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse
- Johnson’s throw of 63-8.25 (19.41m) was the top Division II throw at the Open
- The throw was an NCAA provisional markand ranks first in the NSIC and ninth in NCAA Division II
- Marks the second NSIC Field Athlete of Week award this season for Johnson
NSIC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Mason Phillips (Distance, Fr., Bailey, Colo. / Platte Canyon HS) - Sioux Falls
- Placed second in the men’s mile run at the CSM Joe Davies Open
- His time of 4:21.11, converts to the 25th fastest time nationally this season
- The time also broke his own school record and ranks second in the NSIC
NSIC Team Notes
Augustana
Men’s Track
- Keegan Carda anchored the men’s Distance Medley Relay team that took first with a time of 10:11.06 at the Stinger Open
- Nathan Schroeder and Nate Souther finished one and two in the men’s 1000 meter run
- Schroeder crossed the line with a time of 2:35.68 and Souther came in at 2:35.89
Concordia-St. Paul
Men’s Track
- Charles Arnold took home a seventh place finish with a time of 7.11 seconds in the 60m at the Snowshoe Open
Men’s Field
- Brett Morris finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 49’7.00” in the Snowshoe Open
University of Mary
- The Marauders won five events at the BSU Twilight
Men’s Track
- Sophomore Corey Berner was first in the 200m (23.02) and placed second in the 60m
- Freshman Gabriel Wylie won the 600m in 1:26.40
- Sophomore Tyler Erickson won the 1,000 meter run in 2:37.77
Men’s Field
- Sam Mackedanz won the high jump at the BSU Twilight
- Mackedanz cleared an NCAA provisional qualifying height of 6-8
- Junior Jensen Roseboom won the pole vault at 14-09.50
Minnesota Duluth
- UMD sent a squadron to Friday’s Snowshoe Open on the University of Minnesota campus
Men’s Track
- James Ryan took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with the a time of 8.44
Men’s Field
- Brian Lee, for third time this season, set a school record in the weight throw
- Lee’s NCAA Division II provisionally-qualifying toss was 59-09
MInnesota State
Men’s Track
- Derek Finsterwalder placed eighth in the 800-meter run at the Snowshoe Open with a time of 1:57.16
MSU Moorhead
Men’s Track
- Brian Huber won the 60-meter dash in 7.10 at BSU Twilight
- Huber’s time was a career-best
Men’s Field
- Kevin Norville won the triple jump at the BSU Twilight
- Norville had a winning jump of 47-3.5, which is fourth-best in the NSIC
- Norville ‘s jump was an NCAA provisional qualifying jump
Minot State
- Minot State University was idle last weekend
Northern State
- NSU finished off the indoor regular season last Friday at the SDSU Last Chance Meet
Men’s Track
- Nicholas Lindwurm nearly broke the school record in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:22.31, placing third overall
- Itoitz Rodriguez won the 400-meter dash for the second straight week with a time of 49.16 seconds
Sioux Falls
- USF concluded their regular season at the SDSU Tune Up and sent one athlete to the Colorado School of Mines Joe Davies Open
Men’s Track
- Mason Phillips placed second in the men’s mile run at 4:21.11, which converts to the 25th fastest time nationally this season
- Teddy Frid placed second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.46 seconds and Tery Ferguson was runner-up in the 600-meter run in 1:21.68.
Men’s Field
- Jacob Zebedee continued his hot streak in the pole vault, clearing 4.90 meters (16 feet-0.75 inches) to take fourth and set another provisional mark
- Chase Jensen and Tristan Zawadzki both cleared 4.75 meters (15-7) to place fifth and sixth, respectively, with provisional marks
- Lee Rose won the men’s long jump at 6.72 meters (22-0.75)
Southwest Minnesota State
Men’s Track
- Chris Kveseth broke the school record in the 400 meters with a time of 50.32 to win his heat and finish fifth out of 20 at the SDSU Last Chance Meet on Friday
Men’s Field
- Alex Weis won the shot put out of 14 competitors at the SDSU Last Chance Meet with a toss of 15.01 meters
- Weis also placed third out of 16 competitors and was the top Division II athlete in the weight throw with a mark of 17.05 meters
St. Cloud State
- SCSU competed at the Snowshoe Open on Feb. 19 at the University of Minnesota
Men’s Track
- Junior Myles Witcher finished third in the 60m hurdles in a season-best time of 8.42
Men’s Field
- SCSU was led by junior Keyshawn Davis winning the long jump with his leap of 7.04m.
- The mark was an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark, but did not better his previous jump this season
- The long jump win was the fifth of the season for Davis
- Senior Ryan Johnson placed fifth in the weight throw invitational (19.41m).
- Junior Quinn Anderson placed second in the weight throw (16.42)
Wayne State
Men’s Track
- Braxton Adams posted a sixth place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.02 seconds Friday night at the Nebraska Tune-up Invitational held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln
Men’s Field
- Brady Metz picked up a third place finish in the triple jump with a top mark of 45-4.5 Friday night at the Nebraska Tune-up Invitational held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln
