Mankato, Minn. – Concordia-St. Paul junior Tyler Naumowicz used a strong final day at the NSIC Heptathlon to win CU's second consecutive title. Naumowicz’s score of 4926 was 54 points better than Minnesota State’s Ben Ojika score of 4872. Naumowicz joins Collin Gologoski as the only NSIC Heptathlon winners hailing from Concordia-St. Paul.
Naumowicz ‘s score was a personal best, was an NCAA provisional mark, ranks him first in the NSIC this season and places him in the top 20 scores of Division II this season.
Naumowicz’s best finish came in the shot put as he recorded the second best throw with a heave of 37-10. He was third in the pole vault (13-1.5) and the 1000m run (2:44.81) while placing fourth in the long jump (20-10) and 60m hurdles (8.56). Naumowicz was sixth in the high jump (6-1.5) and 11th in the 60m dash (7.50).
Naumowicz put ten points on the board in the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship for the Golden Bears, however, Minnesota State’s Ojika, Jack Curtis and Joe Williams combined for 17 points to give the Mavericks an early lead in the team standings.
The NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships will continue on Fri.-Sat., February 26-27 in Mankato, Minnesota.
