NSIC Wrestler of the Week

Aero Amo (184 lbs, So., Rapid City, S.D. / Central HS) - Augustana
- Defeated No. 8 Scott VanDeLoo of Minnesota State with a 16-0 technical fall in the first period
- Recorded three four-point nearfalls and a two-point nearfall during the win over VanDeLoo
- Defeated Austin May of MSU Moorhead by pin at 2:56 in the first period in a 33-7 win
- Improved his record to 24-1 overall and 17-0 in duals
- Currently ranks No. 4 in the NCAA Division II at 184 pounds
 

2015-16 NSIC Wrestling Notes
Augustana
- Augustana fell to Minnesota State 19-16 but rebounded for a 33-7 win at MSU Moorhead
- Michael Lowman went 2-0 over the weekend at 285 pounds  
- Jacob Anderson and Colin Ayers both secured victories at 149 pounds over the weekend
- Augie wil host Minot State on Friday night before traveling to Upper Iowa on Sunday
 
U-Mary
- The Marauders hosted No. 2 St. Cloud State and fell to the Huskies by a score of 42-3
- Jakob Weisbrod was the lone Marauder to win his bout with a 7-1 sudden victory over Curt Zachmeier
- Weisbrod scoring a takedown and four-point near fall in the overtime period
- U-Mary will make their final road trip of the regular season this Sunday, February 7, when they travel to Moorhead, Minn., to take on MSU Moorhead

Minnesota State
- The No. 15 Mavericks went 1-1 in their two duals this week
- On Thursday, they bested Augustana by a final score of 19-16
- This was the first win for Minnesota State versus the Vikings since the 2012-13 season
- On Saturday, the team fell just short to Upper Iowa, 18-17, losing their first NSIC dual of the season
- No. 2 Matt Mincey (R-Sr., 157 lbs.) handed Upper Iowa’s Jordan Rinken his second loss of the year by defeating him 8-1.  Mincey improved to 18-0 on the year
- The Mavericks conclude their 2015-16 home schedule on Saturday, where they will host No. 2 St. Cloud State.  Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

MSU Moorhead
- Blake Bosch, ranked No. 2 in the nation, rolled to a 15-3 major decision at 133 pounds for MSUM over Augustana’s David Potratz on Friday
- Bosch accounted for one of the two Dragon wins in the dual and  is now 24-5 on the year and has won 16 matches in a row
- Freshman Adam Blees won at 165 pounds for the Dragons’ other win against Augie
- Five of the Dragons’ last six duals have been against teams ranked in the top 20 in the Basford rankings
- MSUM, now 5-6 in duals, will compete at Northern State on Thursday before hosting U-Mary on Sunday

Minot State
- Minot State defeated Jamestown 33-14 Tuesday to halt a seven-match skid
- The Beavers fell to No. 2 St. Cloud State 0-50 on Friday
- Cody Haugen (149) earned his second pin of the season against the Jimmies
- Against Jamestownm Mason Courtright (174) came back from two points down in the final period and won in overtime for his sixth win of the year
- Minot State will compete this week against Augustana and Southwest Minnesota State on February 5 and 6, respectively  
 
Northern State
- NSU fell to Southwest Minnesota State 29-19 in their fourth NSIC dual this season
- The Wolves drop to 5-10 overall in dual competition
- Carson Henry, Tyler Stenberg, Blake Perryman, and Joe Gomez tallied victories for the Wolves in the dual
- Perryman and Stenberg won by a decision and major decision, while Henry and Gomez each won by fall
- The Wolves return to the mat this Thursday to kick off the NSU “I Hate Winter” weekend against MSU Moorhead at 7 p.m.
 
Southwest Minnesota State
- SMSU split last weekend with NSU and No. 8 UIU
- No. 8 Cole Wilson (285) also went 2-0 last weekend
- Wilson started with a forfeit win against NSU before pinning his eighth opponent against UIU in 44 seconds
- Kyle Begin started the weekend with a pin over NSU’s Ayden Garcia in 40 seconds to recorded his fifth pin of the season
- Begin closed the weekend at UIU with a 10-8 decision over UIU’s Colbey Vance
- SMSU is 6-8 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC and will travel to St. Cloud State on Thursday, before hosting Minot State Saturday

St. Cloud State
- The St. Cloud State Huskies remained undefeated in the NSIC with a pair of road victories over the weekend
- On Jan. 29, the Huskies clocked a 50-0 victory at Minot State and then completed the weekend on Jan. 30 with a 42-3 win at the University of Mary
- SCSU currently owns a 12-1, 4-0 NSIC record this season
- SCSU has now won 40 consecutive NSIC matches as the last time SCSU lost a conference dual match was an 18-13 setback against Augustana on Jan. 27, 2011
- In the individual rankings, Tim Prescott is ranked number one in the nation at 125-pounds while Clint Poster (165) and Austin Goergen (285) are also ranked number one in the nation
- SCSU also sent a group of wrestlers to the annual North Country Open on Jan. 30 at St. John’s
- SCSU’s Tim Prescott (125-pounds), Aaron Bates (174-pounds) and Garrett Miller (184-pounds) all gained first place finishes for the Huskies in the tournament
- Clint Poster leads the Huskies this season with a 27-1 record at 165-pounds, while Austin Goergen is a perfect 25-0 at 285-pounds
- SCSU will continue its season on Feb. 4 with a dual match against Southwest Minnesota State at Pierz-Healy High School in nearby Pierz, Minn.  The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.  
- The Huskies will complete their NSIC weekend on Feb. 6 with a 2 p.m. Match at Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota

Upper Iowa  
- No. 8 Upper Iowa improves to 13-1 overall and 6-0 in the NSIC with a 33-9 win over SMSU and a 18-17 victory over No. 15 Minnesota State
- Zak Benitz improved to 28-6 this season with a pair of wins including a crucial 24-9 technical fall, one of two bonus-point wins for UIU, in Saturday’s win over MSU
- Matt Paulus picked up the second bonus-point win at 133 pounds by a score of 12-1
- Damian Penichet, a redshirt freshman at 149, and Ryan Parmely, a freshman at 197, along with Benitz were the only three Peacocks to post 2-0 records over the weekend
- Parmely scored a fall on Friday against SMSU and outlasted Darick Vancura 3-2 in a critical match against MSU that gave UIU an 18-12 lead heading into the final match
- Malcolm Allen of MSU dominated the heavyweight match, but couldn’t get the pin, scoring a tech fall instead, to leave UIU on top by one point on the final scoreboard
- Maleek Williams (125) returned to the mat after a medical scare in November for an 8-5 win against MSU on Saturday
- UIU will host the Augustana Vikings on Sunday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. in Dorman Gym
