Concordia-St. Paul Tabbed NSIC Volleyball Preseason Favorites

BURNSVILLE, Minn. - For the 12th consecutive season the Concordia University, St. Paul Golden Bears were the coaches choice to win the league in the annual NSIC Preseason Volleyball Poll. The Golden Bears, which finished second in the NSIC last season with an 18-2 record, received 11 first place votes to tally 219 points.

NCAA National Runner-up Southwest Minnesota State was picked second as they received 207 points and three first place votes. Defending NSIC Champions of Minnesota Duluth were picked third in the poll as they had 205 points and two first place votes. The Bulldogs return NSIC Player of the Year Ashley Hinsch, who was voted by the league coaches as the 2015 NSIC Preseason Player of the Year.

The 2015 NSIC Volleyball season will begin with non-conference matches on Thursday, Sept. 3 while the NSIC schedule begins Thursday, Sept. 17.  The 2015 NSIC regular season champion will be determined by the 20-game conference schedule. The top eight teams will play in the single-elimination NSIC Volleyball Tournament on Nov. 18, 21-22. Quarterfinals will be hosted on campus by the top four seeds while the semifinals and championship will be hosted by the highest remaining seed following the first round of play.

#10 Ashley Wilson (MB, 6-2, So., Sioux Falls, S.D. / Roosevelt HS)
- Earned All-NSIC Second Team honors in 2014
- Started in 26 of the Vikings 28 matches last season
- Had a team best 115 blocks, good for fifth in the NSIC
- Was second on the team with 304 kills 
- Set a career high in kills with 18 against Missouri Western on Sept. 12
- Tallied a career high in blocks with eight against St. Cloud and Sioux Falls
#9 Jessica Yost (OH, 6-3, Jr., Bemidji, Minn. / Bemidji HS)
- Started all 28 of Bemidji State's matches as a sophomore
- Posted 300 kills to lead the team for the second consecutive season and become the first BSU player since Bethany Thompson (2011 and 2012) to lead the team in consecutive years
- Collected seven double-doubles
- Reached at least 20 kills in two matches including one against nationally-ranked Northern State (Oct. 18)
- Registered a career-high 20 digs at Augustana (Nov. 7)

- Posted a .224 attack percentage on 607 attempts

- Totaled 73 total blocks (three solo, 70 assist) for an average of 0.61 per set

- Surpassed the 1,000-kill milestone in a five-set victory over MSU Moorhead in Fayette
- Became the first junior in program history and fourth player at UIU to reach the 1,000-kill mark
- Recorded 1,059 kills in three years
- Broke the single-season record in kills with 439, the third highest tally in the conference and 22nd highest mark in the nation.

 - First Team All-NSIC during junior season
 - Ranked fifth in NSIC in assists per set at 10.88
 - Had three triple-doubles last season and named NSIC Setter of the Week twice
 - Second Team All-NSIC setter as a freshman and sophomore
 - Ranks third on career set assist list with 3,666
 - Named Capital One Academic All-District VII Second Team as a junior
