NSIC Team Notes
Augustana

Augustana placed second after the final day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Vikings collected 109 points as two Vikings set new NSIC records this past weekend starting off with Leah Seivert who battled against Northern State’s Sasha Hovind in the 10k but broke away the final two laps to set a new NSIC record, and win the women’s 10,000-meter run to open the conference championships. The Sibley, Iowa native also clocked a time of 34:55.57 to shatter the 35:27.70 record by running against Minnesota Duluth’s Morgan Place set back in 2010.
Augustana now awaits the NCAA release of national-meet qualifiers for the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will take place in Allendale, Mich. on May 21-23.

Bemidji State
Junior Hailey Horob broke the Bemidji State University pole vault record to headline the BSU contingent at the NSIC/US Bank Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 8-9 at Lillibridge Track and Field Complex in Sioux Falls, S.D. Horob was one of four Beaver contenders to record a personal-best mark at the meet.
Just two weeks removed from breaking an eight-year-old record with a pole vault of 11-feet, 7.25-inches, Horob raised the bar to 11-07.75 at the championships to better her mark, but found herself on the outside looking in, finishing in ninth place.
Samatha Velde scored team points for BSU recording a personal-best 118-09 in the javelin to finish sixth. The mark surpassed her previous best mark by nearly 20 feet to jump in on the scoring, while Nicole Crummy, who was the strength of BSU's middle-distance events all season, recorded a personal-best two-minutes, 18.73 seconds in the 800-meter run preliminary race and on the heels of her first collegiate victory in the 5,000-meter run at the Cobber Twilight (April 28), Jolynne Denman clocked a personal-best 19:53.84 in the event, trimming more than 12 seconds for her best time to finish 25th.
The championships served as the final event for Craig Hougen as the head coach of the BSU track and field team. Hougen, who announced his retirement earlier this year, walked away from a program he has mentored for the last 26 years. During his tenure, BSU teams have produced two NSIC championships, five individual national champions, 30 All-Americans, six Academic All-America picks and nearly 400 all-conference performers. In addition, his teams and team members have been regularly honored for academic success by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association.

Minnesota Duluth
Amelia Maher certainly made her final Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship appearance a memorable one. The University of Minnesota Duluth senior finished as the NSIC leading point producer Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D., and she and her Bulldog teammates wound up placing fourth among 14 league schools. Maher locked up the women’s high jump title (5’-05.75”) on Friday morning before going on to place second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.04) the following day. Maher, who finished as the runnerup in the league’s outdoor heptathlon competition last week (4,893 points), wrapped up the weekend by helping the 4 x 100 relay team take fifth and the 4 x 400 unit claim seventh. That gave the Sauke Center, Minn., product -- and recently-minted UMD  Top Female Scholar-Athlete for 2014-15 --  a personal harvest of 27.5 points. Besides Maher, UMD produced one other individual champion in freshman Emi Trost, whose NCAA Division II provisional-qualifying time of 4:27.39 took a backseat to no one in Saturday’s 1,500-meter run finals.

Minnesota State
The Minnesota State women’s track and field team finished fifth overall at the conference championships with 73 points.  Brieanna Puckett had a busy weekend guiding the 4x100 relay team (with Sid’Reshia Floyd, Mackenzie Beals and Karlona Gregory) to second with a time of 47.33.  She also finished third in the 100 and 200 meter events.  Anna Veroeven also placed twice taking third in the triple jump at 39’5.75 and eighth in the javelin.

The 2015 NSIC Heptathlon Champion broke her own 100-meter hurdles and placed fourth in the event, as well as capped off the first day of competition with a school record time in the 200-meter dash.
