Minnesota State won its fourth straight NSIC/US Bank Outdoor Track & Field Championships behind a dominate performance at Lillibridge Track & Field Complex. The Mavericks, which have won six of the last seven titles, scored 202.5 points to win by over 100 points.  The Mavericks won five individual events and one relay at the championship. In all, six new records were set by the men at the championship.

On day one, MSU's Emmanuel Matadi set an NSIC record in the prelims of the 100m dash with a 10.19, the fastest time in Division II this season. He went on to win that event along with the 200m dash. Myles Hunter set a record in the 110m hurdles at 13.80 as he broke Northern State's Luke Hauert 2013 record of 14.03.  David Pearcill set a new mark in the triple jump with a leap of 49-4.25 to break the record of 49-0 set by Cal Baker of MSU Moorhead in 1979.  

The NCAA National Championships will take place on May 21-23 in Allendale, Mich. hosted by Grand Valley State University.  The entire field for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Tuesday, May 12 at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com.

NSIC Team Notes
Augustana

Augustana placed second after the final day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  Adam Braun set a new NSIC record as he dominated the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase in a provisionally qualifying time of 9:00.09, which ranks 15th in the nation. With this mark, Braun crushes Mike Francis’ of MSU-Moorhead’s record of 9:07.24 which was set back in 1974. The men’s 92-point total was second to Minnesota State’s 202.50.

Concordia-St. Paul
CU placed 9th at the NSIC Championships
Mike Cullen (Sr., Throws) was All Conference in shot put as he placed third while setting a school record and provo mark. He also competed in the hammer, discus, and javelin.
Colin Goligoski (Sr, Multi’s) was All Conference in decathlon, placing third as he set a school record. He also competed in the pole vault, long jump, and 4x100 relay at the NSIC meet.

University of Mary
A vastly improved effort by the University of Mary at the 2015 Northern Sun Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship was headlined by Jay Cooper’s winning form. The Marauders finished the two-day event in seventh place with 50.5 points, improving three spots in the standings from last spring and four from the indoor championships last February. Freshman Jay Cooper won Mary’s lone title, clearing the 400 meter hurdles in a scintillating time of 52.62 seconds. It was the first Marauders outdoor title since 2010. Senior Aaron Teigen placed in two separate events. The native of Rugby, N.D., took third in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. In his final collegiate meet Reginald Washington placed second in the 400 meter dash with a season-best time of 48.38 to finish as runner-up. Dustin Rueb claimed third in the high jump when he exceeded his season-best mark by three inches. Junior Ben Gailfus took fourth in the javelin, his best finish at the NSIC meet. Taking sixth place in the triple jump was William Kaigler with a season-best mark of 14.37 meters. Thomas Neale earned sixth place in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with his best time of the year. In his first NSIC meet, Cory Berner claimed seventh in the 200 meter dash. Jensen Roseboom claimed sixth in the pole vault and just missed his season-best. Travis Gavin earned a point for the Marauders in the discus.

Minnesota Duluth
Nick Moran and Brendon Pineda both claimed individual titles and helped lead the University of Minnesota Duluth to a fourth-place finish at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D. Moran, a senior team captain from Monticello, Minn., personally accounted for 15 of UMD’s 83 points, winning the hammer throw on Friday with a toss of 181’-08” and later that day took fourth in discus event (161’-08”).  Pineda, who joined the UMD track  program this spring after completing his first season as a starting guard with the basketball Bulldogs, prevailed in the shot put with a winning effort of 55’-07.00”.

Minnesota State
The Minnesota State men’s track and field team captured their fourth-straight outdoor title this weekend scoring 202.5 total points.  In the preliminary round, senior Emmanuel Matadi set a new school-record in the 100-meter dash as 10.19.  He would go on to win both the 100-meter and 200-meter events on Saturday as well.  Myles Hunter broke the 1956 school-record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.8.  Geno Bullard, Kyran Stewart, Richard Wilhite and Anthony Gustafson combined to capture the 4x100 title as well.  Keyvan Rudd secured the high jump with David Pearcill taking the triple jump.

MSU Moorhead
The MSUM men finished third with 84 points at the NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.   Sophomore Cody Christ had a record-setting performance in the 5,000 meters to claim the first NSIC title of his Dragon career and cap off an impressive weekend for the MSUM distance corps. Christ set a new meet record of 14:40.42 to win the event by more than seven seconds. The previous record was 14:43.74 set in 2014. Christ also earned All-NSIC honors in the 10,000 meters with a runner-up finish on Saturday. MSUM’s 4x400 men’s relay cruised to a time of 3:15.27 to win the title by nearly three seconds. That consisted of junior Charles Tiedman, senior Kenny Andri, senior Matt Loehr and senior Ryan Olson.

Minot State
Minot State’s Cody Schmidt (Fr., Javelin, Stanley, N.D.) bested teammate Phillip Streccius (Sr., Javelin, Minot, N.D.) on his final throw one toss after Streccius had taken over the lead. The best toss of the day changed hands three times in the final five competitors leading to Schmidt’s event-winning throw of 62.76-meters at the University of Sioux Falls’ Lillibridge Track & Field Complex.
Tyler Flatland finished the day with three medals, second in the 400 hurdles, fifth in the 4x100 and eighth in the 4x400 relay. He nearly defended his title in the 400 hurdles as a last moment dive to the finish line came up just a little short, falling to Jay Cooper of the University of Mary by six one hundredths of a second.

Northern State
The Wolves track and field squad ended their regular season in Sioux Falls on Saturday at the NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. A total of 12 men’s teams converged at the Lillibridge Track and Field complex hosted by the University of Sioux Falls, site of the 2018 NCAA DII Track and Field Championships. The men finished eleventh with a total of 29 points. Senior sprinter Andrew Johnson solidified his spot as one of the top sprinters in NSU history after earning his first career All-NSIC honor in the 200m dash.  On Friday, Johnson blazed a 10.53 in the 100m dash prelims to earn the third fastest qualifying spot while missing the school record by just 0.03 seconds.  Johnson, who already owns the indoor school record in the 200m dash, would follow that up with the fourth fastest qualifying time in the 200m prelims with a 21.43 clocking. In the finals on Saturday, Johnson finished sixth in the 100m dash in 10.86, and would bounce back to run a personal best by whopping 0.23 in the 200m dash to finish third.  Johnson’s finals time of 21.18 is currently 22nd best in NCAA DII.

Southwest Minnesota State
Sophomore Alejandro Sanchez (Plano, Texas / East HS / Waldorf College) became SMSU’s first ever NSIC champion at the Division II level after winning the 800 meters on Saturday with a time of 1:53.54. He was also a member of SMSU’s 4x400 relay team that set a school record of 3:19.55 and finished fourth at the NSIC Championships.
Junior Will Hanson (Aurelia, Iowa / Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn HS / North Iowa Area C.C.) earned All-NSIC honors placing third in the javelin with a school record toss of 59.98m at the NSIC Championships last Saturday. He was also a member of SMSU’s 4x100 relay team that finished fourth with a time of 41.91.
 
Sioux Falls
Serving as hosts of the NSIC/US Bank Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the first time, Sioux Falls earned three individual championships, including one by Bobby Brockmueller, the men’s high-point scorer. Brockmueller pieced together three top-five performances, winning the men’s 1,500-meter run by 0.04 seconds and placing second in a deep men’s 5,000-meter field. On day one, Brockmueller placed fifth in the men’s 10,000-meter run just two hours before earning a spot in the 1,500-meter finals.  
Sioux Falls’ pole vaulters continued to prove their the toast of the NSIC in their signature event by sweeping the men’s and women’s vaults. Jacob Zebedee led a 1-2-3 charge of Cougars in the men’s vault with his first conference title. Brandon Rogers and Chase Jensen tied for second in the competition.
Next up for the Cougars is the NCAA Championships on May 21-23 in Allendale, Mich.

St. Cloud State
The St. Cloud State men’s team won three individual titles and placed fifth at the NSIC/U.S. Bank Outdoor Track and Field Championships, posting 72 points. The Huskies have posted a top five finish in six of the last seven outdoor championships. Keyshawn Davis (So., Milwaukee, Wis.) defended his 2014 title in the long jump winning the event in 2015 with a mark of 24-03.00. That mark also improved his NCAA provisional qualifying mark. He currently ranks 21st on the NCAA qualifying list. Davis collected points in the triple jump as well, placing fourth with a leap of 47-06.50.
Rafael Saez (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis.) won the discus with a toss of 171-00 to improve his NCAA qualifying mark and ranks 19th in the NCAA. He placed ninth in the shot put with a mark of 50-04.75.
JoVonte Suber (So., St. Louis, Mo.) won the Huskies third individual title, topping the field in the 400 meters in a personal record time of 48.17.
Ryan Johnson (Jr., Amery, Wis.) collected points in three events, the discus,  shot put and hammer. He place fifth in the discus with a throw of 161-01, sixth in the hammer with a mark of 169-09, and tossed the shot put 51-05.50 for a seventh place finish. He ranks 19th on the NCAA qualifying list in the hammer.

Wayne State
The Wayne State College men finished in eighth place with 44 points at the 2015 Northern Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Wayne State men finished with four All-NSIC performers with two new school records and three NCAA provisional marks while scoring 44 points to place eighth.
 The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Kole Heller, Braxton Adams, William Ernst and Derek Lahm earned All-NSIC honors with a second place finish in a new school record time of 41.43 seconds, topping the previous mark of 41.71 set last weekend at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays.
 Adams also earned All-NSIC honors in the 100 meter dash placing third in 10.73 seconds after he set a new school record in Friday’s prelims with a time of 10.58 seconds, an NCAA provisional mark.  Other All-NSIC finishers included sophomore Derek Lahm second in the decathlon (6,638 points) and junior Bryan Dunn took third in the hammer throw with a top mark of 175’ 11”.
