NSIC Decathlon set for Sunday and Monday in Aberdeen, S.D.
The NSIC/US Bank Championships will begin on Sunday from Aberdeen, S.D. when the decathlon begins at 2 p.m. The event will continue on Monday, April 27 at 10 a.m. The decathlon will be the first of 21 events in the 2015 NSIC/US Bank Championships. The University of Sioux Falls will host the remainder of the NSIC/US Bank Championships on Fri.-Sat., May 8-9 at Lillibridge Track & Field Complex in Sioux Falls, S.D. Rudd established a new personal-record in the high jump at the Beach Invitational. Rudd cleared 7’1” to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships and rank him tied for second in Division II.

Matadi returned from the California trip with one of the best weekends of his career. At the Mt. SAC Relays, Matadi tied Moo Muhammed’s school-record in the 100 meters posting an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 10.26. This ranks him number one in Division II and 11th across all divisions. He would also run the 200 meters with another automatic qualifying time of 20.70, increasing his national ranking to third. The St. Paul, Minn. native was also featured on the 4x100 team that established a new school-record. They posted a time of 40.15 which ties them for number one in the nation. The next afternoon, Matadi helped the 4x400 team finish with a time of 3:12.74 at the Beach Invitational. This time was just 0.5 seconds off the school-record and ranks 11th in Division II.

Augustana
Men’s Track: At the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University. Adam Braun took the top mark in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase recording a new personal-best time. The senior provisionally qualified with a time of 9:02.22, which ranks 12th in the nation.
Men’s Field: CJ Ham competed at the Cal State Twilight Open breaking his current school record in the men’s hammer throw with a personal-best heave of 53.54 meters (174 feet 4 inches) to earn a 13th-place finish. The Duluth, Minn. native placed 10th with a heave of 53.15 meters in the hammer throw followed by a throw of 15.81 meters (51 feet, 10.5 inches) in the shot put at the Long Beach Invite.
Concordia-St. Paul
Men’s Field: Josh Johanson (Fr., East Chain, Minn. / Granada-Huntley-East Chain HS) won the high jump with a jump of 6’3.5” at the Holst Invite.
Men’s Track: Tyler Naumowicz (Jr., Waukesha, Wis. / Waukesha South HS) ran the 400m hurdles for the first time in his career and won in a school record time of 55.08. He was also part of the 4x400 relay team that won and set a meet record. He also placed second in the 110m hurdles and ranks fourth in NSIC while the 4x400 relay is ranked second in the conference.
CU will participate in the Hamline Twilight, Macalester Twilight, Drake Relays, Drake Alternate, and the Multi-event Championships in the coming week.
University of Mary
Men’s Field: William Kaigler (Jr., Tracy, Calif.) captured the triple jump at the Blue Hawk Games. The junior jumper sailed 14.9 meters to take the top spot at the event.
Men’s Track: Jay Cooper (sophomore, Rapid City, S.D.) blazed his way to a win in the 400 meter hurdles and placed second in the 100 meter hurdles at the Blue Hawk Games on Saturday. The junior’s time of 54.33 seconds is the second best mark in the NSIC.
Minnesota Duluth
Four University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs -- freshmen Garrett Benz and Josh Peterson, and juniors James Ryan and Brooks Zamzow -- captured individual championships at Saturday’s Holst Invitational on the campus of Concordia University-St. Paul.
Men’s Track: Benz and sophomore Boston Braack placed 1-2 in the 800-meter run with times of 1:56.90 and 1:59.60, respectively, while Peterson, another first-year Bulldog, ran a 4:04.69 in the 1,500-meter run en route to winning his first collegiate outdoor event. Ryan, who last Sunday topped the field at the College of St. Benedict-Saint John’s University Decathlon meet, took the Holst Invitational 110-meter hurdle crown with a time of 15.21 and Brooks equaled a personal best in the javelin (47.61 meters) to claim that 15-competitor event.
Men’s Field: Nick Moran had a mark of 56.81 meters (186-05) in the hammer throw at the Holst Invite. The heave was another season best and an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, as he continues to lead the NSIC.
Minnesota State
The MSU Men saw their footing on the national scene increase as they travelled to California. At the California State University, Los Angeles Twilight Open, the 4x100 team of Richard Wilhite, Emmanuel Matadi, Kyran Stewart and Anthony Gustafson took first with a time of 40.19. The next day at the Mt. SAC Relays, they would better that time finished at 40.15. This sets a new school-record and ranks them number one in the nation. At the Beach Invitational, the 4x400 team of Stewart, Javontee Brice, Matadi and Nathan Hancock came within 0.5 seconds of a new school-record with their time of 3:12.74. They rank 11th in the nation.

Kyran Stewart ran the 100 and 200 as well finishing the 100 meters in 10.39 and the 200 meters in 21.03, ranking him tied for fifth and sixth, respectively. Sophomore Myles Hunter saw his first action of the season and met the automatic qualifying standard in the 110 hurdles with his time of 14.03, which ranks him fourth.

MSU Moorhead
Men’s Track: Spencer Ruebke (Sr., Ada, Minn./Ada-Borup HS) was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday with a time of 9:10.50, which is an NCAA provisional qualifying time and a personal-best. That time is 18th-best in Division II. Ruebke had a solid performance at the Long Beach State Invitational on Saturday. He was 13th in the 1,500-meter run in 3:51.50, which was a personal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time. That is the fastest time in the NSIC this season.
Men’s Field: Brian Huber (R-Fr., Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley HS) had MSUM’s best finish of the day at the Long Beach State Invitational on Saturday, taking second in the long jump with an outdoor personal-best of 23-8. That is the best jump in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season. A day earlier at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Huber tied for eighth in the high jump at 6-6 3/4, which is tied for third-best in the NSIC this season.
Minot State
Minot State had great success over the weekend as the team split into two group, with a team traveling to California to compete in three events and a team participating in the Dickinson State Blue Hawk Games.
Men’s Track: Tyler Flatland (Hurdles, 6-0, Sr., Watford City, N.D. / Watford City) nearly cracked the scoring column at the Long Beach State Beach Invitational Saturday at Cerritos College’s Falcon Stadium in the men’s 400-meter hurdles. He finished 10th overall with a time of 53.86 seconds, battling multiple NCAA Division I competitors at the large meet. He also placed 18th overall at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays Friday, ending in fourth place in his heat, with a time of 53.87.
Men’s Field: Cody Schmidt (Javelin, 5-11, Jr., Stanley, N.D. / Stanley) earned a NCAA Division II Provisional qualifying mark in the javelin, tossing it 59.46 meters at the Blue Hawk Games. He also earned his second individual title in the event during the outdoor season.
The Beavers will be back in action as a whole unit at the University of Jamestown Al Cassel Relays Saturday in Jamestown.
Northern State
Northern State posted several podium finishes this Friday and Saturday at the Sioux City Relays.
Men’s Track: Andrew Johnson would record two fifth place finishes in the 100m and 200m dashes with a preliminary time of 10.79 and finals times of 10.92 and 21.99. Johnson, Nick Lindwurm, Luke Wietgrefe and David Parsley would team up to finish third in the 4x100m relay (43.36).
Men’s Field: Throwers who joined the tracksters on the top of the podium in Sioux City included David Murphy in the javelin, who recorded a lifetime best throw of 52.74m (173’00”) for the victory. Dillon Dahl finished just behind in third place with a 50.45m (165’06) season best toss. Those marks currently sit fifth and sixth in the NSIC.
Southwest Minnesota State
Men’s Track: Alejandro Sanchez (So., Plano, Texas / Waldorf College) competed at the annual Kansas Relays in Lawrence on Friday and finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.51. He was also on a pair of relay teams during the meet. The 4x800 relay team finished fourth out of 10 teams with a time of 7:49.97, while the 4x400 relay teams placed 13th out of 16 teams with a time of 3:21.16. Both relay teams set SMSU records over the weekend.
Men’s Field: Alex Weis (So., Luverne, Minn. / Luverne HS) competed at the Sioux City Relays on Friday and Saturday and placed sixth out of 34 in the hammer throw with a career best mark of 49.37m. He also placed seventh out of 22 (fifth overall among attached athletes) in the shot put with a personal best 14.87m and was out of 31 in the discus with a toss of 46.15m.
Sioux Falls
Men’s Track: Bobby Brockmueller nearly took down a school record and narrowly missed a provisional qualifying time in the men’s 1,500-meter run at The Beach Invitational on Saturday. The USF senior clocked a 3:54.40 to finish 24th overall in a 98-athlete field.
Men’s Field: The men’s pole vault trio of Chase Jensen, Brandon Rogers, and Jacob Zebedee finished 3-4-5, respectively, on Saturday. Jensen cleared 4.76 meters (15-7.25), a provisional mark, to take third place, and was the top attached competitor. Rogers and Zebedee both surpassed 4.61 meters (15-1.5), with Rogers edging his teammate based on misses in previous attempts.
USF heads to the Drake Alternative/Alumni Meet hosted by Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn. on Saturday, April 25.
St. Cloud State
Men’s Track: JT Butler (Fr., Montgomery, Minn.), after a third place preliminary finish in the 100 meter dash, improved his sprint, finding himself in second place with a time of 10.89 seconds.
Chris Carson (So., Ham Lake, Minn.) finished in second place in the 1500 meter run with a final time of 4:06:55, which was just two seconds behind the event winner. Miles Witcher (So. Apple Valley, Wis.) found himself on the podium in the 110 meter hurdles, as he took third place with a 16.45 second finish. Sebastian Sowada (Fr., Little Falls, Minn.) added to the Huskies medal count when he took third place in the 800 meter run, running it in just 2:00.03. Teammate, Paul Greenwood (Sr., Delano, Minn.) followed close behind with a fifth place finish, just one second behind Witcher.
Men’s Field: Quinn Anderson (So., Sartell, Minn.), after throwing 157-08 (48.07 m) in discus, captured a first place finish. This is Anderson’s first win in the 2015 outdoor season.
In the field was Ryan Johnson (Jr., Amery, Wis.) who took third place in the hammer throw with a distance of 53.33 meters. Johnson also finished second in discuss throw and was joined by teammate Quinn Anderson (So., Sartell, Minn.), who took first place in the event. Marcus Welk (Fr., Fargo, N.D.) continues his successful outdoor season soaring to second place in pole vault with a final jump of 4.50 meters. Keyshawn Davis (So., Milwaukee, Wis.) and Jordan Yira (Hutchinson, Minn.) continued to make St. Cloud proud as they took first and second in the long jump competition with jumps of 6.93 and 6.35. Yira added another second place finish to his collection in the triple jump event, with a finishing jump of 12.60 meters.
Wayne State
Men’s Track: Jared Balady (Sr., Murrieta, Calif.) raced to a second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles at the Sioux City Relay with a time of 55.08. He also ran a leg on the 4 x 400 meter relay which turned in their best time of the season with a mark of 3:21.18, which ranks 5th in the NSIC.
Men’s Field: Bryan Dunn (Jr., Coleridge, Neb.) won the hammer throw at the Sioux City Relays with a mark of 181’ 8”, which is just shy of his season best mark of 182’ 0”. He currently ranks second in the NSIC in the event.
The Wildcats will compete with a partial squad at the Mount Marty Twilight Invite in Yankton, S.D. on Wednesday. They will also send a partial squad to the Drake Relays and Grandview Invitational on Friday/Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa. Finally, a group of two women and two men will be traveling to Aberdeen, S.D. to compete in the NSIC Heptathlon/Decathlon.
