NSIC/US Bank Indoor Track & Field Championships Set for Thursday-Friday
The 2015 NSIC/US Bank Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place on Thursday-Friday, February 26-27 at Myers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato.  Field events will begin at noon on Thursday followed by track events at 3 p.m.  Action will resume on Friday with field events at 10 a.m. and track finals starting at 1 p.m.  More information available at www.NorthernSun.org/NSICIDTF

Trost won the mile run at the University of Minnesota’s Parents Day Open with a time of 4:55.46.  Her run was an NCAA II provisional-qualifying time and the eighth best mark in the country in Division II.  Trost’s run was the fastest mile run in the NSIC this season as well.

Long won the weight throw at the University of Wisconsin Red & White Open, besting competitors from Division I, II and III, with a lifetime best throw of 68’ 5 ¾” (20.87m) which is the six best throw all time in Division II. The NCAA Automatic qualifying throw currently sits third in Division II this winter (behind the top two weight throwers in DII history) and is the best throw by a freshmen in any division this year. Long leads the NSIC by over eight feet as she sits 16th among all collegians this winter. This marks the second time this season Long has been named NSIC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.

NSIC Team Notes
Augustana

Women’s Field: Kelsey Kaufmann took third place in the high jump to provisionally qualifying with a clearance of 1.73 meters (5 feet, 8 inches) at the USD Twilight. Kaufmann ranks second in the NSIC, behind teammate Bree Woelber, and ninth in the nation.

Bemidji State
Women’s Track: Emily Turner finished first in the mile run at the BSU Twilights Friday with a time of 5:43.03. The time was her fourth-fastest mark in the event this indoor season and finished more than ten seconds in front of her closest competitor. Turner also ran a leg of the Beavers’ 4x400-meter relay team, which also finished first in 4:22.15.
Women’s Field: Ciara Brewster placed fifth in the shot put at the BSU Twilight recording a throw of 39-05.75. The mark ranked just 3.25 inches short of her season-best toss.
Led by Nicole Crummy, Emily Turner, and the 4x400 relay, which team all captured first place finishes, the Bemidji State University track and field team had a successful meet at the BSU Twilight Friday. Crummy placed first in the 800-Meter run with a time of 2:24.50. Turner finished first in the mile run with a time of 5:43.03, finishing more than ten seconds in front of her closest competitor.  The team of Sara Melom, Crummy, Morgan Beattie, and Turner sprinted into a first place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (4:22.15).

Concordia-St. Paul
Women’s Field: The Golden Bears were idle last week in preperation of the NSIC/US Bank Championship.

University of Mary
Women’s Track: Kathryn Stewart (Sr., Sprints, Kingston, Jamaica) set a personal best and school record of 7.65 seconds in the 60m dash.  The record breaking run at the Bemidji State Twilight places her second in the conference and 23rd nationally, only .08 seconds out of 10th.       The senior beat her previous best time by .05 seconds and is coming on strong moving into the conference meet.
Women’s Field: Davina Carr (So., PV, Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) cleared a personal best 12’ 10” to win the Bemidji State Twilight meet. She narrowly missed the school record and automatic qualifying height of 13’ 1 1/2” on her next attempt.  Davina is now ranked second in the conference - 4 cm out of first - and sixth nationally - just 9 cm out of first.  The sophomore has increased her personal best 9 inches throughout the indoor season and 4.5 inches in the past week.
The #11 Marauders won six titles and posted two NCAA Provisional Qualifying times. Kathryn Stewart won the 60m dash and Davina Carr pole vault, both with provo marks. Freshman Tonie Pandohie won the 60 meter hurdles and the 200 meter dash. Melanie Rodriguez took the 400 meter run. Jasmyn Garcia took the long jump title.

Minnesota Duluth
Junior Hannah Olson and freshmen Katherine Hawkinson and Emilee Trost all secured individual titles for the University of Minnesota Duluth at the University of Minnesota’s Parents Day Open on Saturday. The meet served as a final tuneup to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which starts next Thursday in Mankato, Minn.
Women’s Track: Emilee Trost won the mile run at the University of Minnesota’s Parents Day Open with a time of 4:55.46.  Her run was an NCAA II provisional-qualifying time and the eighth best mark in the country in Division II.  Trost’s run was the fastest mile run in the NSIC this season as well.
Hannah Olson prevailed in the 1,000-meter run, clocking in at 2:58.16.
Women’s Field:  Hawkinson leaped 35’-5.75” in the triple jump to win that event.

Minnesota State
Women’s Track:  Sid’Reshia Floyd led the Mavericks at the Parent’s Day Open in Minneapolis finishing second in the 60-meter dash with a final time of 7.89.  Teammate Maddi Sjelin followed up with a second-place crown of her own in the 800-meters.  Halee Peterson grabbed fourth in the 3000-meters at 3:02.78.  Down at the USD Twilight, a pair of hurdlers kept success rolling.  Brooke Foreman took home third at 9.05 with teammate Kellie Wong right on her tail in fourth.
Sophomore Maddi Sjelin (St. Michael, Minn.) grabbed yet another top-five finish for her indoor season as she finished second in the 800-meters with a final time of 2:17.73.
Women’s Field: Emma Edelen led the field side finishing third in the weight throw with a top toss of 47’6.5”.  She followed that up with a fifth-place posting in the shot put at 34’9.5”.  

MSU Moorhead
Women’s Track: Tia Knight (Sr., Spring Valley, Calif./Steele Canyon HS), competing at the BSU Twilight, was second in the 60-meter dash in 7.77, just .04 seconds away from a season best. She is ranked tied for third in that event in the NSIC.
Women’s Field: Chelsea Klemetson (Sr., Sabin, Minn./Moorhead HS) won the high jump at the BSU Twilight with a height of 5-6 for her fifth win of the 2015 indoor season. She is ranked third in the NSIC in that event heading into next week’s indoor championships.

Minot State
Minot State was idle this weekend as the Beavers are preparing for the 2015 NSIC / US Bank Indoor Track & Field Championships at Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minn., Thursday and Friday.

Northern State
The Northern State University women’s track and field team recorded a 64-49 win over Southwest Minnesota State in Friday dual action. The NSU women notched 18 top three finishes in the dual with the Mustangs. Up next for the women is the NSIC Indoor Championships, February 26th and 27th from Mankato.  
Women’s Track: Josie Ostermann (Sprints/Hurdles, Fr., Amboy, Minn./Maple River HS) rattled off a pair of victories in the 55m hurdles and long jump events, both in career best marks of 9.00 seconds and 5.09m (16’8.5”) in Northern’s dual versus SMSU.
Women’s Field: Breann Jackson (Throws, Jr., Wheatland, Wyo./Wheatland HS) took advantage of the home crowd atmosphere and unleashed a national caliber performance by throwing over 18 meters for the first time ever in the weight throw. The junior surpassed her personal best by over two feet and is currently tied for 12th in the nation after her 18.27m (59’11.25”) first place toss. In total, three of her six attempts were over 18 meters. Jackson’s previous personal best was set two weeks ago at the Thundering Herd Classic in Fargo, ND at 17.55m. Jackson also finished second in the shot put with a mark of 12.58m (41’3.25”) as the throw crew proved instrumental in the team battle with the lady Wolves defeating the Mustangs 64-49.

Southwest Minnesota State
Women’s Track: Freshman Kim Shabino (Spencer, Iowa / Spencer HS) captured first place in the 200-meter with a time of 26.4 at the SMSU/NSU dual last Friday.
Women’s Field: Sophomore Rylee Armstrong (Peace River, Alberta, Canada) earned a first place and school record mark of 11.34m in the triple jump at the SMSU/NSU dual.

Sioux Falls
University of Sioux Falls turned in a host of strong performances in their final regular season meet, including some record- or near record-setting performances at the USD Twilight. The Cougars swept the pole vault competitions at the USD Twilight and added two more national qualifiers to the NCAA Division II list.
Women’s Track: Katlyn Sawtelle (Sr., Luverne, Minn./Luverne HS) won the women’s 60-meter hurdles with a personal best and provisional qualifying time. She was the top qualifier in prelims with an 8.86-second run, then won the finals with an 8.82-second run. She also ran the 400-meter dash for the first time in her career and placed third in 58.99 seconds.
Women’s Field: Kimberly Peterson (Fr., Elizabeth, Colo./Elizabeth) won the women’s pole vault competition at the USD Twilight Open, nearly breaking her personal best. She cleared 3.90 meters (12 feet-9.5 inches) to defeat five vaulters from University of South Dakota. Her current best of 3.95 meters is third on the qualifying list.

St. Cloud State
The St. Cloud State women’s track and field team competed at the University of Minnesota Parents Day Invitational on Feb. 21 at the UM Fieldhouse in Minneapolis.   
Women’s Field: Heather Clankie led the Huskies at the meet in Minneapolis on Feb. 21 with a seventh place finish in the shot put with a throw of 38-00.75 (11.60m) and teammate Cassandra Cardinal placed eighth in the shot put at 34-06.25 (10.52m).

Wayne State
Women’s Track: WSC’s 4x400 meter relay team of Mary Alderson (So., Fremont, Neb.), Kelsey Dietrich (Fr., Laurel, Neb.), Elizabeth Pille (So., Oakland, Neb.) and Rebecca Davenport (Sr., Sargent, Neb.) came in 10th place with a time of 4:04.92 at the Nebraska Tune-up Open.
Women’s Field: Sara Wells (Sr., Albion, Neb.) won the weight throw with a mark of 58’ 7 ¼” at the USD Twilight Meet.

Winona State
Women’s Track: Catherine Whitcomb (Sr., Shakopee, Minn.) anchored the winning 4x400 meter relay at the University of Wisconsin Red & White Open with a split of 56.68 helping the Warriors move up to 6th in Division 2 and first in the NSIC this winter.  This is Whitcomb’s fourth year anchoring the Warrior’s 4x400 meter relay to a top 10 time in Division 2.
