NSIC/US Bank Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships Begin Sunday
The NSIC/US Bank Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships will kick off Sunday from Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minn.  The women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon will begin at 2 p.m.  The women's events conclude Sunday afternoon while the men finish their final three events on Monday at 10 a.m. The championships will conclude on Thursday-Friday, February 26-27 at Myers Fieldhouse. Lilja placed first in both the long jump and high jump at the Burns Wellness Center on the College of St. Scholastica campus. Lilja soared 22’3.5” inches to earn the long jump title at the Lake Superior Challenge with the sixth longest jump in the NSIC this season.  In claiming the high jump, Lilja hit the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 6’8” to record the third best height in the NSIC this season and tie the Burns Wellness Center Facility record.

Hunter was the lone Maverick to make the trek down to the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. In doing so, Hunter beat the entire field of Division I student-athletes in posting a final time of 7.77 in the 60m-hurdles. While not his best mark on the season, it was still an NCAA automatic qualifying time as he finished with a 0.12 lead over the second place finisher. Hunter continues to hold the top time in Division II and fifth best across all divisions. This marks the third time this season Hunter has been named NSIC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
NSIC Team Notes
Augustana

Men’s Track: Ryan Heuer (Jr., Fairmont, Minn.) earned a second place finish at the Ted Nelson Classic this past Saturday in Mankato, Minn. in the men’s 60-meter hurdles provisionally qualifying with a time of 8.21, which ranks 30th in the nation.
The Vikings are back in action on Friday and Saturday Feb. 13-14 at the SDSU Open in Brookings S.D.

Concordia-St. Paul
Men’s Field: Mike Cullen (Sr., Green Bay, Wis. / Green Bay Preble HS) set a school record in weight throw with a mark of 55’1” to place second in the weight throw at the Lake Superior Classic. He also won the shot put with a mark of 53’0.25”.
CU will compete in the SDSU Open and the NSIC Multi-event Championships next week.

University of Mary
Men’s Track: Chris Jessop was second in the mile with a clocking of 4:20.29. He missed his career-best by less than a second (.44) at the Thundering Herd Open at NDSU.
Men’s Field: William Kaigler posted the Marauders best finish at the Thundering Herd Open at NDSU. The junior captured the triple jump with a season-best mark of 46’. Two other Marauders recorded runner-up finishes. Joe Berger tied for the top mark in the high jump but placed second on the tie-breaker when he cleared the bar at 6’6”.

Minnesota Duluth
Ten Bulldogs captured individual titles at Saturday’s Lake Superior Challenge in Duluth, including sophomore Jason Lilja, who was a double winner.
Men’s Track: Bulldog titlist included junior Gage Sachs in the 3,000-meter run (9:10.86), freshman Nathan Comer in the 600-meter run (1:25.74), junior James Ryan in the 60-meter hurdles (8.66), junior Mark Emlaw in the 60-meter dash (7.22), freshman Darrick Jackson in the 800-meter run (2:03.89), freshman Austin Carlson in the 400-meter dash (53.05), junior Drew Johnson in the mile one (4:27.42), junior Mitch Fisher in the 5,000-meter run (15:43.74) and senior Phil d’Entremont in the 500-meter dash  (a school- and Burns Wellness Center-record 1:05.54).

Minnesota State

Men’s Field: Senior Khalil Jor’dan (Eagan, Minn.) captured his first triple jump win of the season on Saturday at the Ted Nelson Classic.  His jump of 47’5.25” was more than enough to earn the crown.  Jor’dan’s previous jump in the season currently ranks him tied for 14th in Division II as the season hits the final stretch before conference meets begin.
The distance medley team comprised of Austin Pasch, Zach Gearman, Victor Bowen and Austin O’Brien finished with a provisional qualifying time of 10:06.26 and currently rank as the eighth-best team in Division II.  Senior Anthony Gustafson tied for first-place in the 200-meters at 22.330 as camera replay was unable to decipher between him and a UW-La Crosse opponent.

MSU Moorhead
Men’s Track: Keith Turner (Sr., San Diego, Calif. / Hoover HS) ran a personal-best time of 1:21.30 to win the 600 meters at the Thundering Herd Classic on Friday. His time is the fastest in the NSIC this season and second-fastest in MSUM school history. He was also part of winning 4x400 relay that won the seeded race with a time of 3:12.74 during Saturday’s action, which is best in the NSIC this season and ranks second in the nation (adjusted time for track size).
Men’s Field: Marshal Pederson (Jr., East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks HS) finished ninth in the men’s heptathlon at the Thundering Herd Classic with 3,830 points. His point total is eighth-best in the NSIC this season and a career-best total.

Minot State
Minot State University’s men’s indoor track and field team traveled to North Dakota State to battle some of the area’s top NCAA Division I and II teams at the Thundering Herd Invite Friday and Saturday.
Men’s Track: Tyler Flatland (Sr., Watford City, N.D. / Watford City HS) finished fifth overall in the men’s 400 with at time of 50.36 and was fifth in the 200 with a 22.91. He helped the men’s 4x400 relay team finish third overall, taking a second off the team’s fastest time of the year.
Tyler Bates (Sr., Watford City, N.D. / Watford City HS) finished third to pace five MSU runners in the top 5 of the men’s 200-meter, finishing in a time of 22.60 seconds. He followed that up with a 50.74 in the 400, the sixth fastest time in MSU history, finishing sixth in the event. Finally he helped the men’s 4x400 relay team finish third overall, taking a second off the team’s fastest time of the year.
Men’s Field: Kaleb Kirby (Fr., South Elgin, Ill. / St. Charles North HS) won the pole vault with a finish of 14’7 ¼” on Friday. The jump was Kirby’s season best and was the fourth-best mark in school history.

Northern State
The Northern State University men’s track took home strong performances from the Thundering Herd Classic.
Men’s Track: Andrew Johnson (Fr., Peoria, Ariz. / Peoria HS) turned in another solid outing for the Wolves with runner-up finishes in both the 60m and 200m dashes. Johnson was the top collegiate finisher in both events where he now sits fifth and fourth in the conference, respectively. He recorded a time of 6.95 in the 60m and a time of 22.34 in the 200m.
Men’s Field: Austin Dancer (Sr., Aberdeen, S.D./Central HS) recorded fourth and ninth place finishes in the triple (44’05.25”) and long (20’03”) jumps from the Thundering Herd Classic.

Southwest Minnesota State
The Mustangs were idle last week. They return to competition this Friday and Saturday at the South Dakota State University Classic Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings.

Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls sent their team to the USD Alumni Open in Vermillion, S.D. And came away with a host of top-eight finish and eight victories at the meet. The men’s distance medley relay squad traveled to the Ted Nelsen Classic and recorded a provisional qualifying time along with a four top-six finishes in the open events.
Men’s Track:  Bobby Brockmueller won the men’s mile and took third as a member of the provisional-qualifying DMR at the Ted Nelsen Classic. He ran a 4:17.36 in the mile to win the event.  He also opened the DMR in the 1,200-meter leg of the relay and helped USF to a provisional 10:09.92, which ranks 12th in Division II.
Men’s Field: Scott Greenman (Jr., Clovis, Calif. / Clovis HS) won the men’s collegiate division pole vault competition, improving his provisional mark in the process as he cleared 5.05 meters (16-6.75) to win and make it the second straight week over five meters. He is now tied for fourth in NCAA Division II at 5.05 meters and just six centimeters shy of an automatic qualifying mark.

St. Cloud State
SCSU competed at the Ted Nelson Classic hosted by Minnesota State.
Men’s Track: JT Butler (Fr. Montgomery, Minn.) placed third in the men’s 200 meter dash in 22.55 while Johnathan Hess (So. Bloomington, Minn.) placed fifth in the men’s 1000 meter race in 2:49.61.
Men’s Field: In the men’s pole vault, first year Marcus Welk (Fr. Fargo, N.D.) went 15-00.25 to finish third.
Jordan Yira (So. Hutchinson, Minn.) was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 20-09.75. Yira also placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 44-01.25. Ryan Johnson (Jr. Amery, Wis.) placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 60-05.75. He was third in the shot put with a toss of 51-03.75. Rafael Saez (Jr. Milwaukee, Wis.) was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 49-11.25. Quinn Anderson (So. Sartell, Minn.) placed fourth in the weight throw with a throw of 52-02.00.
Several members of the men’s team will compete at the South Dakota State University Classic next weekend.

Wayne State
Men’s Track: Braxton Adams (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) placed 16th in a field loaded with Division I athletes from the Big Ten, SEC, and
Pac-12 to earn an NCAA Provisional National Qualifying Mark with a time of 6.87 in the 60m dash.  His mark ties him for 28th on the NCAA National Rankings list and is third on the NSIC list.
Men’s Field: Brady Metz (Fr., Grand Island, Neb.) placed 5th in the triple jump at the Fred Beile Classic at Doane College in Crete, Neb. on Saturday.  His mark of 44 ‘ 8 3/4” is over 2’ further than his best jump in high school and ranks him 9th in the NSIC in the event.
