SMSU rallies past Augie in NSIC Tournament

MARSHALL, Minn. —
The No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat No. 24 Augustana, 3-2 in the quarterfinal match of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament. The Mustangs won by scores of 21-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17, 15-10.
 
No. 2 seed SMSU improves to 25-4 overall, while No. 7 seed Augustana finished the season 18-11.
 
Taylor Reiss and Abbey Thissen highlighted the SMSU offense—which finished hitting .325 in the match—as they both sit career highs in kills. Reiss compiled 24 kills while hitting .449 in the match, while Thissen floored 23 kills and finished hitting at a .405 clip. Sarah Parker also added to the offense with 15 kills and finished hitting .433. Megan Larson played an efficient match, as the sophomore recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 60 assists—one shy of tying her career high—and double-digit digs.

Whitney Bumeister paved the way for the defense with 18 digs, while Larson and Kenzie Beekman added 14 apiece. Kayee Burmeister added 10 digs.
 
Both teams recorded 12 total blocks, as Thissen led SMSU tying her career high with seven. Reiss added six, while Parker added four rejections.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will play No. 6 seed Winona State on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 12 p.m., in St. Paul on the campus of Concordia-St. Paul.
