Lake City, Minn. (The Jewel – Par 71 – 6669 yards) - Minnesota State used rounds of 286 and 297 to finish at 583 (+15) to remain atop the leaderboard after round two of the NSIC Men's Golf Championship played at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake, City, Minn. The Mavericks hold a six stroke lead over second place Winona State (295-294=598 +21) and a 13 stroke lead over third place St. Cloud State (294-302=596 +28).
The individual leaderboard has four players tied at two-over-par (144) for the championship. Minnesota State’s Kelton Schmitz, who led after round one, followed up his tournament low round of 69 with a 75 in round two. Joining Schmitz atop the leaderboard were Winona State’s Jon Lindquist (72-72), Upper Iowa’s Curtis Cooksley (74-70) and St. Cloud State’s Troy Ryynanen (73-71).
The highlight from round two came from Augustana’s Parker Klitzke, who made a hole-in-one on the eleventh hole, a 200 yard par three. Klitzke’s ace helped him to a second round 72, as he sits three strokes back of the leaders.
The NSIC Men’s Golf Championship will resume next spring as the final 36 holes of the 72-hole championship will be played April 9-10 at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri.
