NSIC Offensive  Player of the Week
#81 Josh Mikes
(WR, 6-3, 215, Jr.,  South Elgin, Ill. / St. Charles North HS)
Winona State University


Josh Mikes was a favorite target as the wideout had 13 receptions for 224 yards and four touchdowns in the Warriors 47-13 win at Northern State last Thursday.  His four touchdowns tied for the most from a Warrior receiver in WSU history and the 13 receptions tied for second most.  The 224 yards were the fifth most by a Warrior receiver in WSU history as well.  His first touchdown was a 50-yard connection from Jack Nelson to put WSU up 7-0, while other scores were from 30 yards and 13 yards, twice.

#56 Alex Wahl
(LB, 6-2, 235, Jr.,  Elgin, Ill. / Larkin HS)
Upper Iowa University


Alex Wahl recorded 16 tackles, three of which were for 15 yards lost in the Peacocks 44-36 come-from-behind win over MSU Moorhead.  Wahl, who had nine solo stops, also recorded a quarterback sack one a fourth down as the Dragons were threatening to score.  Wahl capped off the day with a forced fumble halting a Dragon drive in Peacock territory.

Lucas Wainman scored 12 points for the Vikings in their 54-0 win at Minnesota Crookston.  He hit both of his field goals and connecting on all six extra points.  His field goals were from 52 and 32 yards out, with the 52-yarder being his second career hit from 50+ yards.  Wainman also had one punt of 47 yards an kicked off nine time for 528 yards (58.7 yards per kickoff) with five touchbacks.

-    Bemidji State was just 1-4 at home a year ago, posting its first losing home season since 2001 (1-3).
- The Beavers are 11-7 in home openers under head coach Jeff Tesch
- BSU is 2-1 all-time versus USF including a 1-0 mark when hosting
- The last meeting on Sept. 22, 2012, the Cougars won at home, 21-5

- Concordia held the advantage in first downs (19 to 15), passing yards (130 to 82) and time of possession (32:09 to 27:51)
- Golden Bears rushed for 232 yards as a team, averaging 6.3 per carry
- Concordia trailed 20-3 with under 11 minutes to play
- Concordia had UMD to a 3rd and 1 at the UMD 26 yard line with under 2 minutes before Bulldogs broke a 46 yard run to seal the contest

- Concordia is 7-5 against NSU all-time including 5-1 at home with a 5-game home winning streak against the Wolves

- Both touchdown passes came in the fourth quarter

- Started the Marauders fourth quarter rally with a 47 yard kick off return to set up the team’s first touchdown

- Also posted an assisted tackle on special teams
- Caught seven passes for 91 yards

- U-Mary is 1-3 all-time against the Warriors (1-1 at WSU, 0-2 at home).
- U-Mary’s lone win was a 21-19 road victory in 2010 where they blocked a Warriors field goal attempt on the final play of the game.
- WSU won the last meeting 32-23 in 2012.

- The Golden Eagles were led by junior quarterback Ben Bucholz, who was 16-of-25 for 146 yards passing and had 17 rushes for 57 yards
- On defense, senior linebacker Greg Lofquist tallied nine tackles to lead the way
- Freshman receiver Adam Connette had a strong debut with 9 catches for 84 yards.

THIS WEEK - at SMSU
- The Golden Eagles will head to Southwest Minnesota State University Sept. 13 for a 6 p.m. game
- UMC defeated SMSU 33-28 during the 2012 season, which was their last meeting
- The Golden Eagles will look to finish drives on offense, as the Golden Eagles had some good drives early on against Augustana but were unable to finish off the drives with points.

- Rushed for a career-high 165 yards on just 14 carries in No. 3 UMD’s 20-13 victory over Concordia-St. Paul
- Helped seal the season-opening win by bolting 46 yards on the Bulldogs’ final series that basically ran out the clock.
- Also caught one pass for 10 yards
- Has now cracked the 100-yard run barrier six times as a collegian

- Was called upon to handle UMD’s punting duties this past Saturday
- Punted five times for 206 yards for a 41.2 yard average with a long of 52
 
  THIS WEEK - at AUGIE
- Bulldogs are riding a nine-game regular season winning streak
- UMD posted its 15th straight season-opening victory last Saturday
- A pair of juniors -- free safety David Boegel and left cornerback Darion Fletcher led the Bulldogs defensively against Concordia with 12 total tackles each (a personal-best for both players)
- The Bulldogs are 7-2 all-time versus Augustana College and have prevailed in each of the last five clashes with the Vikings.
- Sophomore quarterback Drew Bauer ran for one touchdown (a 34-yard jaunt) and threw for another (to senior tight end Taylor Grant from six yards out) in Saturday’s triumph over Concordia while sophomore placekicker Tyler McLaughlin, a back-up one year ago, was 2-for-2 in field goals (22 yards and a career-high 45 yards)
- UMD is now 45-1 in its last 46 home NSIC games and has won 17 of its last 18 league contests overall dating back to the middle of the 2012 season.

- Pfeiffer notched 128 rushing yards and a touchdown
- Caught one pass for five yards and averaged eight yards per carry
- His touchdown run came with 3:30 left in the third quarter as he ran 62 yards for the score to put the Mavericks up 24-0.

Joshua Gordon (DE, 6-2, 250, Jr., Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
- Finished with six tackles, including one sack for a loss of four yards
- Recovered a fumble with 3:07 left in the second quarter. After the fumble, MSU marched down the field and scored a touchdown to take a 17-0 lead into halftime.

Alden Haffar (K, 5-10, 205, Jr., West Des Moines, Iowa/West Des Moines)
- Notched a 51-yard field goal with 10:14 to go in the second quarter to put MSU up 10-0.
- Averaged 58 yards per kickoff in six kickoff attempts, including three touchbacks.
•    With its 31-0 win, MSU reclaimed the Traveling Training Kit.
•    MSU has won 19 consecutive NSIC games at Blakeslee Stadium
•    MSU’s 31-0 shutout of SCSU was its first shutout at Blakeslee Stadium since the 2012 season when it shutout MSU Moorhead 24-0.

- NSU was led by Blaine Schmidt’s nine tackles
- Joe Parsley added seven stops and Chad Stoterau had six and a team-high two tackles for loss.
- Paul Woodward led the Wolves with five pass breakups.

- The Wolves are making their first trip to Concordia-St. Paul since a 2011 trip in which they lost 27-22
- In NSU’s last meeting with the Golden Bears, the Wolves held on for a 24-23 win after blocking CU’s game-tying PAT attempt with 34 seconds left
- Northern will be facing former offensive line coach Mike Shafer who is CU’s offensive coordinator

- Caught 18-yard TD pass from Matt Young in third quarter on 3rd & 16 play with 12 seconds to play in first half. TD reception helped USF build 34-7 lead over Minot State.
#33 Clint Wilson, LB, 6-1, 228, Jr., Piedmont, SD (Sturgis Brown HS)
- Recorded six tackles and a forced fumble
- Led a USF defense that limited Minot State to 182 yards in total offense
- USF allowed 24 yards rushing on 25 carries which ranks 1st in the NSIC and 2nd nationally for this week. In addition, the 182 yards on 57 plays allowed ranks 3rd nationally and is first in the NSIC.
- USF allowed just one TD and limited MISU to no red zone scoring opps.
- USF recorded five sacks (by five different players) or exactly 1/3 of the total from 2013.
- The Cougars won their 10th opener in the past 11 games and are 3-2 in home openers under Head Coach Jed Stugart.
- USF defeated Minot State for the fifth straight time since a loss in the first game of the series in 1994 (20-13).
- USF quarterbacks Matt Young and Luke Papilion completed a combined 27-of-33 passes for 285 yards and 3 TDs. Young was 18-22-163-TD while Papilion was 8-of-9-117-2 TDs.
- Nephi Garcia, a senior running back for the Cougars, had 22 carries for 89 yards and 2 TDs vs. Minot State, which gives him nine straight games of recording 80 yards or more rushing.
 THIS WEEK - at BSU
- USF stands 2-1 against BSU, including a 21-5 win at home in 2012.
-First meeting was in1982 with the Cougars taking a 14-12 at home.
- BSU took a 31-0 win at Bemidji over USF on Sept. 3, 1983.

- Connected on a 35-yard field goal.
-SMSU has now lost its last four season opening games.
-SMSU held an 18-3 lead in the fourth quarter versus U-Mary, but the Marauders rallied with 16 straight points. It was the second straight game versus U-Mary, in which SMSU held a fourth quarter lead, only to have the Marauders use a fourth quarter rally to win.
-The loss ended a four-game regular season winning streak for SMSU.
THIS WEEK - vs UMC
-SMSU leads series 8-2, including 4-0 in Marshall.
-SMSU is beginning its 7th season at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
-SMSU and UMC played the first ever game at the Schwan Regional Event Center on Aug. 30, 2008.
-UMC won the last meeting between the two teams on Sept. 22, 2012, in Crookston, earning a 33-28 decision.

- The Huskies are 0-1 after a season opening 31-0 loss at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The last time the Huskies were shutout in a game was during  the 2007 season.
- Ledell White (Jr., RB, Milwaukee, Wis.) rushed for 59 yards on 12 carries
- Adam Josephson (So., LB, Minneota, Minn.) made a career high 16 tackles including two tackles for losses in the opener.
- Kyle Risinger (Sr., DB, Excelsior, Minn.) recorded the Huskies first interception of the season. Last season the Huskies recorded a school record 24 interceptions breaking a record that stood since the 1970 season and tied in 2010.

THIS WEEK - vs WSC
- The Huskies and Wildcats last met in 2012 at Wayne, Neb., with the Huskies winning 24-19.
- St. Cloud State went 6-0 on its home turf last season, 19-4 at home since 2010 and 41-14 all-time at Husky Stadium.
- Ledell White is closing in on 1,000 yards career rushing with 968 yards.
- St. Cloud State leads the all-time series over the Wildcats 11-1 since 1965. The lone loss was in 2009, at Wayne, 41-20.
- It’s Family Weekend on the campus of St. Cloud State Sept. 12-14. The Huskies Fan Fest will begin at noon in the parking lot south of Husky Stadium.
