NSIC Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year
University of Mary’s Kathryn Stewart (Sprints, Jr., Kingston, Jamaica) was voted by the league coaches as the NSIC Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year.  Stewart contributed 25 points to the University of Mary’s third consecutive NSIC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Team Title as she.  She won the 100 meters, the 200 meters, anchored the winning 4X100 meter relay and ran on the winning 4X400 meter relay team.  Nationally, Stewart currently ranks 21st in the 100 meters (11.82), ranked 19th in the 200 meters (24.18), ranked 9th in the 4X100 meter relay (46.39), and ranked 4th in the 4X400 meter relay (3:42.24).

NSIC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year
Wayne State’s Sara Wells (Throws, Jr., Albion, Neb. / Boone Central HS) was voted by the league coaches as the NSIC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.  Wells won the shot put at the NSIC Championships with an NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 51’ ¼”, which was over three feet better than the next best throw and broke the NSIC Record by almost two feet.  She then won the discus with a throw of 154’ 5”, over 3’ ahead of the next competitor.  Wells also placed eighth in the hammer throw to help score a total of 21 points at the Championship.  During the season Wells had throws that ranked her second nationally in the shot put (52’ 4”), fourth in the discus (164’ 0”), and 23rd in hammer throw (174’ 7”).

NSIC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field  Newcomer of the Year
Minnesota Duluth’s Samantha Rivard (Distance, R-Fr., Oak Grove, Minn. / St. Francis HS) was voted by the league coaches as the NSIC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Year. Rivard had a stellar outdoor championship where she scored 27 points.  She won the 10,000m in an NCAA provisional mark of 35:50.74, the 19th best time in the country this season.  She also won the 5000m run and early this year set an NCAA provisional mark of 16:29.73 at the Drake Relays, the second fastest time in the country.  She completed her championship with a third place finish in the 1500m run.

NSIC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year
University of Mary’s Mike Thorson was voted by his peers for the sixth time in the last eight years as NSIC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of Year. Thorson led his Marauders to their third straight outdoor title and sixth in the last eight years.
