Aberdeen, S.D. -  Chanel Miller captured top honors for the second straight year in the NSIC Hepthlon at the league meet in Aberdeen, S.D. In addition, fellow Bulldog junior Amelia Maher, who placed first (and Miller second) at the NSIC Indoor Pentathlon Championships two months ago, finished fourth in the 15-athlete competition.

Miller came into the day holding down the No. 4 spot through the first four events, but placed second in the long jump (5.47 meters) and then won the javelin toss -- her lone title in any of the seven events -- with a throw of 37.86 meters for 626 points. That was a hefty 113 points more than the next closest competitor. A fourth place-effort in the 800-meter run (2:31.94) to conclude the afternoon gave her 4,769 points and a five-point cushion over runnerup Katlyn Sawtelle of the University of Sioux Falls. Maher, meanwhile, accumulated 4,368 points and took first in the 800-meter run (2:31.56) and second in the 200-meter dash (26.36). The University of Mary's Molly McDonald wound up third with 4,534 points.

Thanks to Miller's and Maher's high finishes, the Bulldogs will enter the NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships (at Winona State University on May 9-10) with 15 team points in their coffers.
