MINNETONKA, Minn. – The Winona State tennis team earned a 5-1 victory over Upper Iowa Saturday in the opening round of the NSIC Tournament in Minnetonka, Minn.

The Warriors (11-12 overall) jumped out to an early lead in doubles play and used three straight-set wins in singles play to claim the match. Fifth-seeded Winona State will now play No. 1 seed Augustana in the tournament's semifinal at 8 am.

WSU won two of the day's three doubles matches, getting a 8-3 win from Hannah Potter and Jessica Urban while Andrea Krueger and Brittney Freund posted a perfect 8-0 victory.

Singles play also went Winona State's way, getting three victories to secure the win. Freund was perfect while recording a 6-0, 6-0 win while Brianna Havelka (6-1, 6-2) and Krueger (6-2, 6-1) also earned victories.
