Rochester, Minn. - The NSIC Swimming and Diving Championship completed day one of four in Rochester. Lindenwood holds a slight lead over St. Cloud State in the team standings following the first day. Action will continue tomorrow with swimming preliminaries to begin at 10 a.m. and a finals session to kick off at 6:30 p.m. The championship's final session will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

MINNESOTA STATE
The Minnesota State swimming and diving team posted a pair of top-three finishes at day one of the NSIC Championships Thursday. Junior Emily Green took second place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.78, while freshman Nicole Bean finished in seventh place with a time 24.60. Junior Jade Ely posted the top finish for the Mavericks in the 200-yard IM as she took 14th place with a time of 2:13.23. Senior Nicole Bennett placed 18th in the 200-yard IM as well with a time of 2:14.20. Freshman Shelby Sechena placed seventh in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:35.59. Freshman Stefanie Roskosch took 17th place in the event with a time of 11:04.28. The MSU 200-yard medley relay team of Green, sophomore Emilie Berg, junior Ivanna Smirnova and Bennett finished in third place with a time 1:46.72.

Senior
Megan Rieland finished third in the 50 freestyle to earn all-conference honors, highlighting the opening day of competition for the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's swimming and diving team at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships, which are being held in Rochester, Minn. Rieland, who swam a then-personal best of 24.39 in the 50 freestyle prelims, surpassed that with a time of 24.38 in the finals to place third, becoming MSUM's first All-NSIC swimmer of the meet. Rachel Erickson was 10th at 24.93, dropping .23 seconds from her prelim time. Bordak was sixth in the 200 IM at 2:10.64, which was not far from her personal-best time of 2:09.98 that she swam in the morning preliminaries. Bordak trimmed more than 2.5 seconds off of her previous personal-best with that prelim time.Sophomore
Jackie Woods won the bonus final and placed 13th at 2:12.71 and while sophomore
Kaitlyn McKinney was 15th at 2:13.44, almost two seconds faster than her lifetime-best time she swam in the prelims earlier in the day. MSUM's 200 medley relay was fourth with a season-best time of 1:47.38. That consisted of Bordak, Woods, junior
Taylor Miller, and Rieland. The Dragons' 'B' relay, thanks to a lifetime-best anchor split of 23.79 from junior
Susie Kitzman, was a strong sixth at 1:49.47. The Dragons were led by freshman
Kelly Engbring in the 1,000 freestyle as she took 13th at 10:57.06, which was a lifetime-best. Senior
Angelee Hale was 14th at 11:00.18 with junior
Megan Sanford 16th at 11:03.35, a season-best. Several Dragons recorded lifetime-best swims in the 200 IM prelims. That included Bordak, Woods (2:15.18), McKinney (2:15.33), senior

Danae Scheef (11:39.75) both swam lifetime-bests. Senior
Laura Goll had the gutsiest swim of the morning as she battled back and forth with Northern State rival Mik Waiflein in the 1,000 free. Goll and Waiflein first swam against each other as freshmen and today's outcome was the same as it was then with Goll pulling away on the final length to win that battle with a season-best time of 11:01.56. Freshman
Amber Helgoe, who missed the last month because of injury, had an impressive return to competition with a season-best 25.37 in the 50 free.
LINDENWOOD
The Lindenwood women's swimming and diving program got off to a good start at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championships on Thursday in Rochester, Minn. The Lady Lions won two of the four events competed in the first day, and eight swimmers earned all-conference honors.
Audra Thornton won the first event of the competition by taking the 200 IM title.
Alecia McGillivray also earned an individual title in the 1000 free race. All-conference honors were awarded to
Storrie Cramer,
Niki Dahl, McGillivray, Thornton,
Kyleigh Troxel,
Maike Tweesman,
Hannah Vinyard, and
Jocelyn Woo.
Lindenwood dominated the final individual event of the day of the 1000 freestyle. The Lady Lions captured five of the top six places in the competition. McGillivray won the race in a time of 10:11.15. Two of her teammates finished close behind as Troxel was second (10:15.17) and Vinyard was third (10:25.24).
Lena Kirchner (10:30.49) and
Natalie Rembisz (10:31.32) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. The Lady Lions also won the individual title in the 200 IM as Thornton won with a time of 2:05.90. Tweesman finished fifth with a mark of 2:09.83. Cramer came in seventh, Woo was 11th, and
Kelsey Hutton was 17th. In the 50 free, Dahl and MacKenzie Porter reached the A-finals. Dahl came in fourth with a time of 24.40, and Porter was fifth with a 24.60. Also scoring in that event were
Bethany Steffes in eighth and
Daniela Davila Gallego was 18th. The only relay of the day was the 200 medley relay. Lindenwood's top team of Woo, Cramer, Tweesmann, and Dahl earned all-conference with a second-place finish in a time of 1:45.39. The Lady Lions' B-team came in seventh.
NORTHERN STATE
Freshman standout
Katelyn Rhodes led off the night for the Wolves securing an eighth place finish in the 1,000 freestyle with her school record time of 10:44.39. Mikalea Waiflein and
Brianna Iverson placed 18
th and 20
th respectively in the race as well. The second school record of the night was set by senior
Sara Peterson with a time of 25.24 in the 50 freestyle, garnering her a 12
th place finish in the event. Peterson was also a member of the 200 medley relay team alongside
Amanda Taylor,
Samantha Gunning and
Eliza Jacob which came in fifth at 1:51.22. The duo of Gunning and Taylor notched ninth and 12
th place finishes in the 200 individual medley. As a team, the Wolves recorded 102 points in the first day of competition.
ST. CLOUD STATE
The St. Cloud State University women's swimming and diving team completed day one of action at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championships today. The Huskies performed well, finishing with three new school records and two individual conference champions.
Kellyn Craig (Denver, Colo.) took second place in the 200 IM. Craig set a new school record in the event, finishing with a time of 2:06.15.
Caitlyn Beecher (Madison, Wis.) took fourth place in the 1000 freestyle. Beecher set a new school record with a time of 10:28.40. The 200-yard medley relay team made up of

Abby Rasmussen,
Lindsey Mikrut and
Kelsey Leeson were conference champions. The relay team set a new school record with their winning time of 1:43.40. This marks the fastest time in the country right now.
