UMD JUNIOR TANDEM OF MAHER AND MILLER FINISH 1-2 AT NSIC PENTATHLON

Chanel Miller's bid to repeat as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference indoor pentathlon champion hit a road block Sunday, and her name was fellow University of Minnesota Duluth junior Amelia Maher.

Maher, who finished fifth at the same event one year go, topped the 21-competitor field at Minnesota State University's Myers Field House with a point total of 3,605 while Miller accumulated 3,486 points to take second place. A third Bulldog, freshman Cassandra Ortberg, was 14th with 3,013 points. Maher, a native of Sauk Center, Minn., tied for first in the high jump (1.66 meters), was second in the 800-meter run (2.22.44) and third in the long jump (5.26 meters). Miller won the long jump (5.32 meters) and tied for third in the high jump (1.57 meters).
