NSIC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Chris Caron (Junior, Ham Lake, Minn.)
St. Cloud State
Chris Caron brought home medalist honors from the 2014
Bob Waxlax Invitational on Friday, Oct. 24 at the Wapicada Golf Course in Sauk Rapids, Minn. Caron topped the field of 43 runners on the 8K course with a time of 26:08.0. He helped the Huskies capture second place in the race with 41 points, while Minnesota Duluth won the meet with 33 points. Caron’s time is a personal best for the junior from Ham Lake, Minn. and it is the first time a SCSU runner has captured medalist honors at an event this season.

Concordia-St. Paul
Concordia was led by senior Nic Rudolph with a second place finish among 43 total runners comprised of Northern Sun teams at the SCSU Bob Waxlax Invitational at Wapicada Golf Course on Friday. Rudolph finished just 12 seconds off the individual top finisher, Chris Caron of St. Cloud State. He ran the 8k in a time of 26:20.0.

University of Mary
Placed second at the
Mike Thorson Invitational on Friday, Oct. 24
- 1st meet hosted by U-Mary since 2010
- Sophomore Thomas Neale led the Marauders with a 4th place finish
- Three other Marauders placed in the top ten.
- Freshmen Derek Myers and Kevin Carpenter captured 6-7
- Sophomore Steven Gordon claimed ninth

Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs placed five runners among the top nine finishers to take the Bob Waxlax Invitational team title, which was held at the Wapicada Golf Course in Sauk Rapids, Minn. Junior Mitch Fisher led the way for the Bulldogs, completing the 8K race in a time of 26:25 to place third out of 43 individuals.

MSU Moorhead
Brady Speicher (Soph., Perham, Minn./Perham HS)
- Won the Mike Thorson Invitational with an 8K time of 26:24.65.
- Edged teammate Cody Christ by .26 seconds for win.
- Win was first of collegiate career.
- Helped Dragon men to dominant team win at the meet.

Northern State
Clay Danielson finished the 8K Mike Thorson Invitational in 10th and ran a time of 27:10.46.

Sioux Falls
Bobby Brockmueller, Sr., Brandon, S.D.
- Won first ever cross country title with first place finish at
Mount Marty Invite...one of four Cougars to place in the top five...USF had six runners in the top 16 at the meet.
- Clocked 24:49.82 on the 8K course and finished ahead of runner-up Matt Horan of USF who came in with a time of 25:00.90. USF won the team competition (16 teams) with 19 total team points
- Bobby Brockmueller earned NSIC Men’s Athlete of the Week honors on Oct. 8 after placing fifth in the college division at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.

Southwest Minnesota State
Alejandro Sanchez recorded a fourth place finish to lead Southwest Minnesota State to third place at the four-team St. Cloud State Bob Waxlax Invite at Wapicada Golf Course on Friday. Sanchez finished the 8k race with a time of 26:30, finishing 22 seconds behind champion Chris Caron from St. Cloud State. Blake Wooten crossed the finish line second for SMSU with a time of 27:08 to earn a 13th place finish.

- The race is named in honor of the former SCSU track and field and cross country coach Bob Waxlax, who served as the honorary starter at the race.
- T.J. Schlitz placed second for the Huskies with a fifth place time of 26:32.0 and Rashad Harris was 10th place at 26:55.0. The Huskies’ Sebastian Sowada was 11th in the race with a time 27:05.0 and Mathew Massmann placed 14th with a time of 27:09.0. Simila added a 15th place time of 27:14.0 and Johnathan Hess placed 26th at 27:58.0.

Wayne State
Nick Fly (Jr., Omaha, Neb.) posted Wayne State’s top time on the 8,000 meter course with a time of 27:09 to place 42nd overall out of 197 finishers at the Mount Marty College Invitational in Yankton, SD.

NSIC Cross Country Championship
NSIC Cross Country teams will compete in various meets throughout the fall with the season culminating in Wayne, Neb. on Saturday, November 8 at the
NSIC / US Bank Cross Country Championships. The NCAA Regional will take place two weeks later on Saturday, November 22 again in Wayne, Neb. The NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, December 6 at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. in conjunction with the NCAA Fall Sports Festival.
