NSIC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Emi Trost (Freshman, Goodhue, Minn. / Cannon Falls HS)
Minnesota Duluth


Emi Trost ran a personal best time of 21:09.75 to finish in sixth place at the 6K UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational ran at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis.  Trost help the Bulldogs to a second place finish in the 42-team field.   The Bulldogs, who were ranked third in last week’s United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Poll finished behind Grand Valley State in the team standings. GVSU is the defending NCAA DII National Champions. 

NSIC Team Notes
Augustana
The No.7 Vikings finished fifth overall with 135 points at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational ran at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. For a second time this season, Augustana was led by two freshman runners Annie Kruse and Leah Seivert. Kruse turned in the best performance for the Vikings with an 11th place finish, clocking a time of 21:34. Seivert followed pushing to a 15th place finish for Augustana with a time of 21:39.

Bemidji State
The Beavers were idle last week.
Up Next: Oct. 24 when they travel to Bismarck, N.D. to  compete in the Mike Thorson Invitational.

Concordia-St. Paul
The Golden Bears were idle last week.
Up Next: Oct. 24 at the St. Cloud State Invite.

University of Mary
U-Mary, which received votes in last week’s USTFCCCA Poll and remained 5th in the regional rankings, was idle last week.
Up Next: University of Mary hosts the Mike Thorson Invitational on Oct. 24 at the Riverwood Golf Course in Bismarck, N.D. This marks the first time the Marauders have hosted a meet since 2010 as six teams are expected to compete.  A youth race will be run  between the men’s and women’s race while the Marauders pep band and cheer team are expected to perform at the race with National Guard providing volunteers at the finish line

Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs placed second out of 42 teams at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational ran at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. Emilee Trost ran a personal best of 21:10 to place sixth at the meet.

Minnesota State
The Mavericks were idle last week.

MSU Moorhead
The Dragons were idle last week.

Minot State
Minot State finished fourth out of four teams as they battled NCAA Division I North Dakota State and the University of North Dakota as well as CIS team the University of Manitoba at the 2014 University of North Dakota Ron Pynn Invite. The Beavers finished 23 points behind Manitoba for fourth. MSU had three runners finish the 5K course in under 20 minutes as Catie LeDesma (5-6, So., Chula Vista, Calif. / Otay Ranch) paced the Beavers with a time of 18 minutes, 18.25 seconds. LeDesma was seventh overall with her course personal best time. Also finishing under 20 minutes were, Allison Windish (5-5, Jr., Wimbledon, N.D. / Barnes County North), who was 16th overall with a 19:07.02, and Samantha Huether (5-0, So., Minot, N.D.), who was 28th overall with a 19:55.78. The time for Windish was also a personal course record.

Northern State
The Wolves were idle last week.

Sioux Falls
The Cougars were idle last week.
Up Next: Oct. 25 at Mount Marty Invitational in Yankton, S.D.

Southwest Minnesota State
The Mustangs were idle.
Up Next: Oct. 25 at the St. Cloud State Invite.

St. Cloud State
Samantha Sunstrom, a sophomore from nearby Sauk Rapids-Rice H.S., placed among the top 20 runners at the 2014 Drews/Neubauer Invitational on Oct. 18.  SCSU placed 18th as a team at the event with 479 points. The 6K race was hosted by UW-LaCrosse in LaCrosse, Wisc. Sunstrom charted an 18th place time of 22:51 to pace the Huskies. Rachel Sakry placed second for the Huskies with a 70th place time of 23:50 at the Drew/Neubauer Invitational and Zia Matti placed 110th at 24:37.
Up Next: The Huskies will host the Bob Waxlax Invitational on Friday, Oct. 24.  The race will take place at the Wapicada Golf Course in nearby Sauk Rapids, Minn.  The men’s race will begin at 5 p.m.  Team scheduled to compete at the meet include Minnesota Duluth, Southwest Minnesota State, Minnesota State, Concordia-St. Paul and Bemidji State. The Bob Waxlax Invitational is named in honor of the former SCSU cross country and track coach Bob Waxlax.  

Upper Iowa
Upper Iowa placed 25th at the Tori Neubauer Invitational Saturday afternoon hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at Ettrick Golf Course.  The Peacocks scored 685 points to stay in front of five other teams on the day in the team’s final tune-up prior to the NSIC Championships. Hallie Whitley led the team with a time of 24:16 to place 90th, while Chandra Smith placed 132nd with a 25:06.

Wayne State
The Wildcats were idle last week.
Up Next: Oct. 25 at the Mount Marty College Invite in Yankton, SD.

Winona State
Jordan Skelly (Sr., Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo HS) led the Warriors with an eighth-place finish (22:16) out of 453 runners at the  Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational in Ettrick, Wis.  Skelly was WSU’s lead runner and top NSIC finisher in a terrific day that saw the Warriors finish second out of 30 teams and place six runners in the top 50. Jordan Paschke (22:45) finished 14th, Chelsea Schrubbe finished 23rd, Amanda Kaiser finished 25th and Kate Simonet finished 45th to round out the top five finishers for the Warriors.

NSIC Cross Country Championship
NSIC Cross Country teams will compete in various meets throughout the fall with the season culminating in Wayne, Neb. on Saturday, November 8 at the NSIC / US Bank Cross Country Championships.  The NCAA Regional will take place two weeks later on Saturday, November 22 again in Wayne, Neb. The NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, December 6 at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. in conjunction  with the NCAA Fall Sports Festival.
