NSIC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Spencer Ruebke (Senior, Ada, Minn. / Ada-Borup HS)
MSU Moorhead


Spencer Ruebke won the Jimmie Invitational on Friday with a time of 25:29 for his first meet win of the season.  He helped the Dragons to the team title as he won with a time that was 19 seconds faster than the winner from last year.  The Dragons won the event with 29 points, finishing ahead of U-Mary by 28 points.

NSIC Team Notes
Augustana
Augustana had only third runners that competed in the 8,000-meter Briar Cliff Invite resulting in the Vikings not having a team score.  Freshman Logan Burns was battling in the top-10 throughout the race, but came up short to place 13th overall, clocking a time of 26.15.
Up Next: Oct. 18 at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational in Oshkosh, Wis.

Concordia-St. Paul
For the first time in over a decade, Concordia-St. Paul men’s cross country had five runners post a time of 29:20 or better on an 8k course as the team finished in 11th out of 17 at the Lucian Rosa Invite hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside. The team was led by Josh Smith as he set a new Concordia course record at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course, topping the previous mark by 11.5 seconds and breaking an 18-year old program record to finish in 54th place with a time of 26:42.5.

University of Mary
U-Mary placed second at the Jimmie Invite with 57 team points as three Marauders placed in the top nine.  Thomas Neale paced U-Mary for the second straight meet. The junior from Billings, Mont., placed third in a time of 26:33.00 over the 8K course. Sophomore Steven Gordon finished sixth in a clocking of 26:35.00 and freshman Derek Myers placed ninth in 27:06.00.
Up Next: Oct. 24 as they host the Mike Thorson Invitational in Bismarck, N.D., on the Riverwood Golf Course.

Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs were idle last week.
Up Next: The Bulldogs will reconvene on Oct. 18 for the Jim Drews Invitational, hosted by UW- La Crosse in Ettrick, Wis.

Minnesota State
The Mavericks were idle last week.  
Up Next: The Jim Drews Invitational slated for Oct. 18th in LaCrosse, Wis.

MSU Moorhead

Northern State
Clay Danielson ran an 8K time of 27:18 and finished in 11th place to lead the Northern State men’s cross country team to a fourth-place finish Friday at the Jamestown Invitational. Thomas Horgeshimer was next to finish for NSU as he placed 14th for the Wolves with a time of 27:30. Jacob Hemenway and Blake Perryman finished 20th and 21st, respectively amongst attached runners. Hemenway finished in 28:12 and Perryman ran a time of 28:15.
Up Next: Oct 24 the Dragons will travek to the Mike Thorson Invite in Bismarck, N.D.

Sioux Falls
The Cougars finished 10th with 250 points at the Briar Cliff Invite in McCook Lake, S.D. Freshman Jacob Benson was 34th at 27:03.04. Also for the Cougars, freshman Lucas Nadeau was 47th at 27:49.61 with sophomore Taylor Wensman at 49th with 28:43.83. Other runners included junior David Schoenfish, 57th, 29:17.83.
Up Next:  Oct. 25 at Mount Marty Invitational in Yankton, S.D.

Southwest Minnesota State
The Mustangs were led by Alejandro Sanchez, who earned an eighth place finish in the 8k race with a time of 25:54 at the Briar Cliff Invite. Evan Bonneson finished with a time of 26:49 to place 33rd, while Blake Wooten crossed the line in 39th place with a time of 26:55.
Up Next: Oct. 25 at the St. Cloud State Invite.

St. Cloud State
The St. Cloud State University men’s cross country team did not compete in any events on the the weekend of Oct. 10-11.  The Huskies will return to action on Oct. 18 with an appearance at the Drews/Neubauer Invitational at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in LaCrosse, Wisc.
SCSU will return home on Oct. 24 of the Bob Waxlax Invitational.  The meet will take place at the Wapicada Golf Course in nearby Sauk Rapids, Minn.

Wayne State
Justin Brueggemann - (Junior, Plattsmouth, NE) was the top Wayne State finisher, covering the 8,000 meter course in a time of 26:19 to place 18th out of a field of 136 runners at the Briar Cliff Invite at McCook Lake, S.D.  The Wildcat men’s team placed 6th out of 10 teams with a score of 169 points.  
Up Next: Oct. 25 at the Mount Marty College Invite in Yankton, S.D.

Winona State
The Warriors were idle last week.
Up Next: The Warriors will have a few weeks off before they’ll run in the UW-L Drews-Neubauer Invitational in West Salem on October 18.

NSIC Cross Country Championship
NSIC Cross Country teams will compete in various meets throughout the fall with the season culminating in Wayne, Neb. on Saturday, November 8 at the NSIC / US Bank Cross Country Championships.  The NCAA Regional will take place two weeks later on Saturday, November 22 again in Wayne, Neb. The NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, December 6 at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. in conjunction  with the NCAA Fall Sports Festival.
