ROCHESTER, Minn. – Jessica Kullmann led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo home run, giving the Winona State softball team a 1-0 victory over the University of Mary in the NSIC Tournament Friday in Rochester, Minn.
Kullmann’s walk-off home run keeps the Warriors alive in the conference tournament and moves the team on to a 2 pm matchup with Concordia-St. Paul Saturday in the RCTC Dome.
The contest quickly settled into a pitcher’s duel, with WSU’s Ashley Walker and U-Mary’s Cherlyn Trujillo combining to allow just nine hits in the game. Walker gave up just three hits to pick up the victory while striking out seven. She has now shut out seven of her last 11 opponents and is 16-2 on the season.
Six different Warriors recorded hits on the game, with the team having multiple chances to score but never being able to capitalize until Kullmann’s blast on the first pitch of the seventh inning. The home run is the seventh of her season, third-best on the team.
Winona State is now 33-11 overall on the season and stays alive in the double elimination NSIC Tournament. The Warriors had opened the day with a loss to Augustana.
