Stetson Olson finished five-for-eight (.625) with two homeruns, three runs scored, seven RBIs and 11 total bases as 11th-rated Minnesota State  routed Minnesota, Crookston, 9-0 and 10-0, respectively, Sunday night at the Metrodome to improve to 13-4 overall. Olson posted a 1.375 slugging percentage and a 0.667 on-base percentage while recording 18 putouts and adding a stolen base in the two-game set.

Lieser crafted a complete game no-hitter on March 22 in a 10-0 decision against NSIC rival Sioux Falls.  In a game played at the Minneapolis Metrodome, Lieser charted four strikeouts and faced 22 batters in the no-hitter.  He just missed a perfect game with the only USF batter reaching first on a hit by pitch.  Lieser continues to set a strong pace for 2013 with a 5-1 overall record for the top 10 ranked Huskies.  He owns a 2.01 ERA with 25 strikeouts to his credit in 31.1 innings of work this season.  SCSU is 15-2 this spring with a 4-0 mark in league play.

Augustana baseball was idle last week. The Vikings recently had a four-game series with Minnesota Duluth canceled due to weather. Augustana is scheduled to host Dakota Wesleyan at 5:30 on Wednesday, March 27, before hosting Southwest Minnesota State for a four-game series on Friday and Saturday.

Bemidji State
BSU was idle last week after its NSIC opener at Winona State was canceled due to weather and field conditions. The Beavers are scheduled to begin league play March 29-30 at Concordia-St. Paul. The four-game series has already been moved from the CU campus and is scheduled to take place at Minnetonka High School’s Veterans Field. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. It is uncertain if the teams will be able to play at Veterans Field, after the Golden Bears were forced to cancel their four-game set last weekend due to the field not being ready. The Beavers are guided by senior shortstop Lewis Baumann’s .455 batting average, which also leads the NSIC and ranks top 25 nationally.

Concordia-St. Paul
After cancelling its NSIC opening weekend series against Minot State last weekend, Concordia looks ahead to this weekend against Bemidji State … the Golden Bears and Beavers are scheduled to play four games this Friday and Saturday at Minnetonka High School’s Veterans Field with first pitch at 11 a.m. each day … it will also mark the conference opener for the Beavers as they were canceled against Winona State last weekend.
Since joining the NSIC in 2000, Concordia is 26-15 against Bemidji State but the Beavers took three of four from Concordia to open NSIC play last season at Barnes Field on March 24-25 … the Beavers won the first five games against the Golden Bears in Concordia’s first few years in the league, with Concordia winning 26 of the last 36 contests … Concordia is 3-1 against BSU at Veterans Field, with the Golden Bears winning a 4-game series on March 24-25, 2007.

University of Mary
Inclement weather conditions forced the cancellation of U-Mary’s schedule Northern Sun opener at Upper Iowa. The Marauders are next scheduled to take the field April 3 for an NSIC doubleheader at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Despite having last played March 6, the Marauders moved up to seventh in the D2BaseballNews.com Central Region rankings and jumped two slots in the NCBWA regional poll to eighth.

Minnesota Crookston
The University of Minnesota, Crookston baseball team currently has a mark of 0-15 on the season. The Golden Eagles went 0-5 on their Spring Break trip with games in Clearwater, Fla. and Saint Cloud, Fla. UMC showed improvement but giving up the big inning continues to plague them. The Golden Eagles got strong pitching performances in Clearwater from Jon Mittag and Richie Navratil and saw Josh Brehmer find more consistency at the plate from his lead off spot. The Golden Eagles opened up NSIC play Sunday against Minnesota State University, Mankato and held their own early on in both games but would fall 9-0 and 11-0. Matt Korte pitched strong in game two, giving up one earned run in five-and-two-thirds innings pitched. UMC will wrap up their series against the Mavericks Monday and then will head for Wayne State March 29 and 30 for a pair of doubleheaders in Wayne, Neb.

Minnesota Duluth
UMD is set to receive a fresh start of sorts this week -- albeit a delayed one -- a week and change after wrapping up a frustrating spring trip to Florida to conclude the non-conference season. The Bulldogs had been scheduled to kick off the NSIC portion of their schedule last weekend at Augustana, but snowy conditions have forced the cancellations of all four scheduled seven-inning engagements. UMD will now make its 2013 NSIC debut with a four-game set at Sioux Falls, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday at noon. Senior shortstop Orry Engebretsen paces the club with 14 hits on a .298 batting average, while fellow seniors Jordan Smith and Adam Zwak have each made three starts on the mound. Smith, who is serving as a team captain this year, has worked a team-leading 17.2 innings

Minnesota State

#32 Jason Hoppe (RHP, 6-1, 165, Jr., R/R, Sauk Rapids, Minn. / Sauk Rapids) fanned nine Golden Eagle batters while scattering two hits and allowing a pair of walks over seven scoreless innings to improve to 4-0 on the year in game two last night vs. UMC. Hoppe currently ranks seventh in the NSIC with a 1.55 ERA, sixth in opponent batting avg. at .184, fourth with 29.0 innings pitched, third in wins with four and second in the league with 32 strikeouts.
No. 11 Minnesota State moved to 13-4 overall after cruising to a sweep over Minnesota, Crookston last Sunday in the Metrodome by scores of 9-0 and 10-0.  The Mavericks have now won seven of their last eight ball games and will conclude non-conference play this afternoon with another double-dip against the Golden Eagles.  Matt Magers is in his fifth season as skipper of the Mavericks and owns a 186-61 (.753) overall record.

Minot State
Minot State University’s double-header weekend at Concordia-St. Paul was canceled due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. The Beavers will have to wait until a Friday/Saturday double-header at Winona State to play its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game.

Northern State
Robbie Rocamora (UT, 5-11, 205, Jr., R/R, San Marcos, Calif./Mission Hills HS) was a consistent bat in the line-up for the Wolves in Saturday’s doubleheader against Division I North Dakota State.  The junior went 2-for-3 from the plate in both games, scoring one of NSU’s two runs in a 5-2 loss in the opener.
Northern State will now turn its attention to NSIC play, facing Minnesota State in a stiff test right away this weekend.

Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls baseball (4-13, 0-4 NSIC) opened conference play with a four-game series versus the No. 11 St. Cloud State Huskies. The games were moved from Sioux Falls to the Metrodome in Minneapolis due to unplayable field conditions at Harmodon Park, which turned it into a late night series with start times of 9:30 p.m. (Friday) and 11:30 p.m. (Saturday). The final out was not recorded until nearly 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. The Cougars were swept by the Huskies, as SCSU took Friday games by the scores of 10-0 and 10-2 before coming back to post 10-3 and 5-2 wins on Saturday. Newcomer Noah Durkin (FR/5-11/180/L-R/Littleton, Colo./Columbine) was the Cougars’ top offensive threat, going 6-for-13 in the final three games of the series with a triple, run scored and RBI. USF is scheduled to step out of league play on Tuesday with a single game versus former GPAC foe Briar Cliff University.

SMSU
Southwest Minnesota State was idle last week, following its spring trip to Arizona that concluded on March 15.  SMSU was set to open NSIC play on March 23-24 at Wayne State, but the games were postponed due to poor weather.  The teams are scheduled (weather permitting) to play a doubleheader on Tuesday in Omaha, Neb.

St. Cloud State

Mike Jurgella (So., Catcher/DH, Plover, Wis./Pacelli HS) batted .500 in a four-game sweep against Sioux Falls on March 22-23.  Jurgella carded five runs and three RBIs in the four games and he went 6-of-12 at the plate for the nationally ranked Huskies.  Jurgella also had three walks and one stolen base in the games.  Overall, Jurgella and the Huskies tallied 35 runs in the four game sweep of USF at the Metrodome.
The Huskies own a 15-2 overall record this season and are 4-0 in NSIC play.  SCSU opened its 2013 NSIC season with a four-game sweep over Sioux Falls at the Metrodome in Minneapolis on March 22 and March 23.  The Huskies’ Scott Lieser crafted a 10-0 no-hitter victory over Sioux Falls in game one on March 22.  Lieser had four strikeouts in the game and just missed the perfect game with just one hit batter in the game.  He faced a total of 22 batters in the game and this was the second no-hitter of his career at SCSU.  The Huskies completed the day with a 10-3 win over Sioux Falls.  On March 23, the Huskies crafted a 10-3 and 5-2 doubleheader seep over USF.  On the weekend, the Huskies tallied 35 runs in the four games.  Eric Loxtercamp was 7-of-14 in the four USF games.  Steve Rindelaub leads the Huskies with a .381 batting average, while Loxtercamp leads the team with 14 RBIs and 21 hits this season.  Sean Borman posted his first homer of the season on March 22 with an inside the park home run at the Metrodome.  Scott Lieser and Kyle Fischer both own 5-1 pitching records this season for the Huskies.  Lieser’s ERA stands at 2.01 in 2013 and Kyle Fischer has a 2.38 ERA this year.  Over 19.2 innings, Chris Kubitz’ ERA stands at 0.00 in 2013.  He also paces the Huskies this spring with 27 strikeouts.  SCSU will travel to Fayette on March 29-30 for games against Upper Iowa (weather and conditions permitting). The Huskies were ranked from seventh place to 10th place in the four Division II national polls this season.

Upper Iowa
The Peacock baseball team had to cancel their four-game series with the Marauders of the University of Mary this past weekend due to temperatures and field conditions at Robertson Woods Field.  Upper Iowa (7-6) is scheduled to host the Flyers of Lewis on Wednesday afternoon and then open play in the NSIC against St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday in Fayette.  All six games will depend on weather and field conditions as to whether they will remain at home or be moved to a more playable location.
Upper Iowa’s offense is being led by a quartet of hitters.  Third basemen Mikey Henrichs leads the team with a .425 average thanks to 17 hits; the senior has scored 12 runs, driven in 10 and stolen 9 bases.  Tyler Adams is hitting .413 with 19 hits, 13 rbi and 11 runs, while Jose Aguirre (.341) and John Dobson (.333) have also enjoyed early season success at the plate.  On the rubber, Eric Anderson leads the staff with a 3-0 record registering a 3.12 ERA, while Martin Valdez has also thrown well to earn a 2-0 mark and a 2.81 ERA.  The two have combined to throw 33.1 innings for UIU.

Wayne State
Wayne State baseball was not able to play last week due to the weather.  The Wildcats are trying to make arrangements in Omaha to face Southwest Minnesota State for a doubleheader on Tuesday with a site and time yet to be determined.  Wayne State is 8-6 on the season entering conference play.

Winona State
The Winona State baseball team had its NSIC opening series with Bemidji State called off due to snow still on its field. The Warriors are scheduled to begin conference play this weekend with a four game series against Minot State. WSU is 6-8 overall on the season.
