Mary O’Brien was a major factor in the Bemidji State’s 2-0 weekend as she finished with three goals and three assists. Saturday, O’Brien registered six points netting a career-best two goals, which included the game-winning goal, and two assists in the Beavers’ 4-0 victory over Wayne State College. Sunday, the Maplewood native tied the game with her team-best fifth goal of the season before adding an assist on Jess Voeller’s game-winner in the 77th minute. BSU went on to defeat Augustana College 2-1. Her nine-point weekend surpasses the point total of her entire freshman season (3g-1a). O’Brien’s 14 points in league place this season places her second in the NSIC, while her five goals ranks third among the NSIC leaders.

Marissa Rosa, making the first two home starts of her collegiate career, made nine saves on her way to back-to-back shutouts as the Bulldogs picked up a pair of NSIC wins at Malosky Stadium over the weekend. Rosa made four stops in Saturday’s 1-0 blanking of Southwest Minnesota State before coming up with five saves in Sunday’s 6-0 rout of Sioux Falls. Rosa is 2-1-0 in 2012 with an .870 save percentage and carries a sparkling goals against average of 0.90 on the season.

#12 Maren Werth (D/M, 5-9, Jr. Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) logged all possible 200 minutes on the pitch and held the opposing offenses to 14 shots, only five on goal with a tie and a loss this past weekend. Werth led the stifling Viking defense in a 0-0 tie with Minnesota, Crookston Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles were only able to get five shots off and only one of them was on frame. In the 2-1 loss to Bemidji State, Werth held the Beavers to nine shots and only four on goal. Werth also launched four shots, two on goal against the Beavers.
#Sheila Grogan (M, 5-7, Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D./O’Gorman) scored Augsutana’s lone goal over the weekend as the Vikings came back from their second consecutive road trip with a tie and loss. Grogan fired a shot on goal against Minnesota, Crookston, but it was steered away to preserve the tie. In the 2-1 loss to Bemidji State, Grogan found the back of the net in the 44th minute to give the Vikings a brief lead.

Sonja Barr (So., GK, Duluth, Minn.) Led the Bemidji State University soccer team to a 2-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference weekend Sept. 22-23. In 180 minutes of action, Barr collected 11 saves, while allowing one goal, for a .917 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average. Barr posted four saves en route to a 4-0 victory over Wayne State and her second shutout of the season. In addition she recorded the first assist of her collegiate career in the game. Sunday, Barr turned aside seven Augustana shots and allowed just one goal in a 2-1 victory over AC.

#12 Amanda Olsen (F, 5-3, Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn. / Park HS) helped the Golden Bears push their unbeaten streak to five matches leading the team to a pair of weekend wins. In all, she tallied six points in the two games but made a major impact in the process. She scored the game-winner with a second left in overtime time to defeat MSU Moorhead 3-2 on Saturday. On Sunday in a 4-0 win over Northern State, she assisted on all four goals to set the school record for assists in a game. She’s the Northern Sun league leader in points (17) and points per game (2.12) while her five goals are third most and her seven assists tie for the top mark in the conference.
#1 Emma Gartner (GK, 5-6, Fr., Springdale, Ark. / Har-Ber HS) registered her first solo shutout of her young career on Sunday in a 4-0 win over Northern State, playing all 90 minutes in net with seven saves facing 12 total shots. She improves to 3-1 on the year and carries a 0.86 goals against average while holding an .824 save percentage in four total games played. She’s allowed just three goals in 315 minutes as a rookie keeper, saving 14 shots while facing 41 total. Her goals against average is seventh in the Northern Sun on the season.

After dropping two road games last weekend the University of Mary returns home this week to host two of the top teams in the Northern Sun. The Marauders will face NSIC-leading Minnesota State on Saturday, Sept. 29, and fourth-place Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday, Sept. 30. Undefeated after their opening three games of conference play, the Marauders lost consecutive 2-0 games at Winona State and Upper Iowa in U-Mary’s first road trip of the season.

UMC is led by Rachel Halligan (Jr, D, Duluth, Minn.) who has scored one goal and added one assist for three points. Carly Mirwaldt (Sr, M, Fort Wayne, Ind.) has scored one goal for two points. Megan Flynn (Sr, D, Chanhassen, Minn.) has recorded two assists for two points. Ashleigh Erdmann (So, GK, Crookston, Minn.) has a 0.81 goals against average and a .875 saves percentage. She gave up one goal over 200 minutes this past weekend recording 13 saves.

Dani Potter (F, 5-6, Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn., White Bear Lake HS) helped break the Bulldogs out of a massive scoring slump with a five-point weekend to lead UMD to a pair of wins at Malosky Stadium. Potter picked up a helper on Jennifer Smith’s goal in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State. The 2011 First Team All-NSIC selection then had her biggest game of the season on Sunday, posting a goal (the eventual game winner) and a pair of assists in the Bulldogs’ 6-0 drubbing of Sioux Falls. Potter tops the UMD scoring charts with two goals and three assists for seven points this fall.

Nicole Dooher (Sr., Fwd., New Hope, Minn./UW-Green Bay) used two goals and four assists to collect eight points for the weekend helping the Mavericks to identical 6-0 victories Saturday and Sunday. Dooher recorded a goal and two assists in each of the matches as Minnesota State moved into sole possession of first-place in the NSIC. The senior has a team-high 13 points this season helping lead a Maverick offense that has outscored conference opponents 24-2 through five matches.
Molly McGough (So., GK, Centennial, Colo./Araphoe) made three saves en-route to posting her second and third consecutive shutouts, respectively, in two Minnesota State wins this weekend. With four shutouts this season, McGough moved into sole possession of second-place all-time in MSU history with 15 in barely a year and a half. She trails current Maverick assistant coach Sheila Reynolds who has 20 career shutouts. The sophomore lowered her goals against average to 0.53 while raising her save percentage to .833 for the season.

She leads the Dragons with five goals and 10 points on the season and also leads the team with 21 shots, including 10 on goal.
Victoria Hoffman (GK, 5-9. Jr., Apple Valley, Minn. / Eastview HS) had seven saves in the Dragons’ overtime loss to Concordia-St. Paul on Sept. 22. Hoffman has 19 saves in three starts this season.

#10 Zoe Fisher (CM, 5-6, So., Cambridgeshire, England / St. Ivo School / Kingston College) scored her sixth goal of the season, netting the game-winner in the 79th minute to lift Minot State to a 1-0 win over Winona State Sunday. It was Fisher’s third game-winning goal of the season. On the weekend, Fisher had five shots on goal and 10 total shots.
#1 Marie Torres (GK, 5-11, Sr., San Bruno, Calif. / Burlingame High School / Skyline Community College) earned her fourth shutout of the season by blanking Winona State 1-0 Sunday to earn a split of games against Central Region ranked teams. Torres stopped 13 of 14 shots on the weekend, topping Winona 1-0 and falling 1-0 to Upper Iowa on the road. Overall, she has given up four goals in eight games and is 5-2-1 on the season.
Minot State’s Zoe Fisher (CM, 5-6, So., Cambridgeshire, England / St. Ivo School / Kingston College) scored in the 78th minute to lift the Beavers to a 1-0 win over Winona State Sunday, salvaging a split of two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. The Beavers traveled 1,441 miles roundtrip for the split against Central Region ranked Winona State (tied No. 5) and Upper Iowa (No. 7). Marie Torres (GK, 5-11, Sr., San Bruno, Calif. / Burlingame High School / Skyline Community College) stopped eight shots for her fourth shutout of the season. Emilie Rebelo (F, 5-7, So., Sacramento, Calif. / Natomas High School) was key to freeing up Fisher for her game winner and added two shots on goal against Winona and a total of three shots on the weekend. Minot State plays host to Concordia University, St. Paul and the top ranked Central Region team Minnesota State University-Mankato Saturday and Sunday.

The Wolves return home next weekend looking to snap a two-game skid. NSU is 2-1-1 in Aberdeen and 2-1-0 on Jerde Field. Six of NSU’s eight games this season have been shut-out decisions. The Wolves have won twice in those situations. The remaining two contests have gone to double overtime.

Sioux Falls’ forward Mikenna Greathouse was a bright spot in a weekend that featured back-to-back conference losses for the Cougars. Greathouse led the squad with three shots (one on target) in 72 minutes of play at St. Cloud State. She also led USF with two shots, logging 90 at Minnesota-Duluth.
Sioux Falls’ goalkeeper Corrin Cook played tough in net for the Cougars, notching a total of 17 saves in two contests this weekend. In Saturday’s game at St. Cloud State Cook was credited with six saves. Cook added another double-digit effort Sunday, when she recorded 11 stops at Minnesota-Duluth.

#20 Miranda Cadena (F, 5-3, Fr., Highland, Calif. / Redlands East Valley) scored the game winning goal against St. Cloud State for her third goal of the season. Cadena’s goal was the only goal SMSU scored all weekend but it was good enough for a 1-1 record.
#0 Sonya Smith (GK, 5-5, So., Anoka, Minn. / Anoka High School) recorded nine saves while only allowing one goal in 180 minutes in the net during SMSU’s two games versus Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. Smith recorded her third shutout of the season, seventh of her career as she blanked St. Cloud State on Sunday afternoon. SMSU only managed one goal all weekend but the lone goal was enough for Sonya Smith to secure a 1-1 record. The win over St. Cloud State was the second of the season for Smith, as she has only allowed one SCSU goal in two SMSU wins.

Junior Kara Dahmen (Waunakee, Wis.) had some great games this weekend. Dahmen was an aggressive player this week when she was on the field. She attacked the ball and helped the Huskies to one victory over USF. Dahmen helped the Huskies take the lead over USF on Saturday scoring big at the 8:00 mark. She finished with four shots, including two on goal against the Cougars. Against the Mustangs Dahmen totaled two shots with one on goal. She led the Huskies this weekend with a total of six shots, including three on goal and one scoring goal.
The Huskies came out strong on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over the Cougars. SCSU’s junior Kara Dahmen (Waunakee, Wis.) scored at the 8:00 mark, assisted by freshman Gabby Fleck (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) and senior Laura Moline (Eden Prairie, Minn.) to take a 1-0 lead over the Cougars. The second goal for the Huskies came at the 68:46 mark by freshman Michelle Cornell (Waunakee, Wis.) with a header into the goal off of freshman Faith Bila’s (Overland Park, Kan.) corner kick. Junior Kenzie Hanzlik (Stillwater, Minn.) recorded the win at goalkeeper to improve her record to 2-3-1. SCSU finished with 19 shots, including eight on goal against USF. The Huskies second game against Southwest Minnesota State was a tough one that ended in a 1-0 decision in favor of the Mustangs. SMSU took the lead at the 25:07 mark of the game making the score 1-0. The Huskies had many chances to score as they finished with 14 shots including five on goal, while the Mustangs only had five shots with two on goal.

Amanda Smith (GK, 5-9, Jr., Moline, Ill./Moline HS) played all 180 minutes in the Peacock goal again this weekend and posted two more NSIC shutouts running her total to four straight in conference. The junior keeper now has six shutouts on the season including five straight matches overall. Smith recorded 7 saves in the two wins. Smith, who has taken every minute in the net this season, has allowed just two goals in eight matches and has not allowed a goal in the last 530 minutes of action dating back to the 10 minute mark at Winona State on Sept. 7.
Kali Loescher, Jill Schechinger and Lauren Rohrmeier posted the three goals for Upper Iowa over the weekend. Kelsey Taldone recorded a pair of assists, while Corinne Wronski and Valeria Ptasinski also notches helpers in the two matches. UIU’s defense allowed only 16 shots over the weekend, while the offense fired off 30 in their time with the ball. The Peacocks will take to the road this weekend, Sept. 29-30, to face a pair of NSIC foes in northwest Minnesota and eastern South Dakota.

Kayli Hopper, 5-9 junior forward from Norfolk, Nebraska (Norfolk HS), scored the game’s lone goal in the 64th minute to help Wayne State record its first win of the season Sunday in a 1-0 triumph at Minnesota, Crookston. It was Hopper’s second goal of the season for WSC.
Courtney True, a 5-5 freshman goalkeeper from Yankton, South Dakota (Yankton HS), notched her first collegiate win and shutout Sunday in a 1-0 win at Minnesota, Crookston. The Wildcats held UMC to just four shots in the contest as True was credited with one save in the win.

The Warriors completed a four game homestand this weekend, posting a 3-1 record in those games. The Warriors beat Mary 2-0 this weekend before falling to Minot State 1-0. CoCo Sames and Samantha Fegen scored goals for Winona State on the weekend. The team will now travel to Northern State and MSU Moorhead.
