NSIC Player of the Year
#17 Bryan Lippincott
(3B, 6-4, 210, Sr., L/R, Des Moines, Iowa / Johnston HS)
Concordia University, St. Paul

Bryan Lippincott was named the NSIC’s Player of the Year as he captured the league’s triple-slash title, hitting .467/.575/.848 against Northern Sun pitching during the 2012 season. He lived up to his billing after being named the NSIC Preseason Player of the Year as he ranked in the league’s top-10 statistically in all major offensive categories: runs (33), hits (49), RBI (33), doubles (12), triples (2), home runs (8) and total bases (89) in 32 conference games. In his full body of work in 2012 over 44 games, he’s been the national batting leader for much of the season and is still currently 2nd in the NCAA at .494, while also ranking second in OBP (.594) and third in slugging (.864). He’s set a number of Concordia career records including batting average, doubles and runs scored while setting the single season hitting record for the Golden Bears as well. Lippincott is also a 4.0 student and the reigning 2011 Capital One College Division Baseball Academic All-American of the Year.

NSIC Pitcher of the Year
#8 Derek Hansen

Augustana College

Derek Hansen’s 2012 campaign on the mound was one for the record books. The right-hander set Augustana and NSIC single-season records in strikeouts, fanning 97 batters in all games and 82 in conference contests. Hansen is 7-3 and owns a 1.19 ERA in 60.2 innings pitched. He’s tossed two shutouts this season, and opponents are batting just .158 and haven’t hit a home run off the junior. Five times this season he has struck out at least 10 batters. In the latest NCAA statistical report, Hansen is first in the country in strikeouts per nine-inning game at 14.38.

NSIC Newcomer of the Year
#27 Harvey Martin
(RHP, 6-1, 195, Sr. , L/R, Farmington, Mich. / Farmington HS / Central Michigan Univ.)
Minnesota State University, Mankato

Playing in his first year with Minnesota State after transferring from Central Michigan, Martin leads the league with a 10-0 record on the mound in 11 appearances. A native of Farmington, Mich., Martin owns a team-best 2.49 earned run average this season with one complete game under his belt. Martin also ranks sixth in the NSIC with 18 earned runs allowed, tied for seventh with 13 walks allowed, eighth with a .239 opponents batting average, tied for eighth with 19 strikeouts looking and ninth with 65.0 innings pitched.

NSIC Freshman of the Year
#44 Jack Goihl

Augustana College

Jack Goihl’s rookie term included a .345 batting average, nine doubles, six home runs and 21 RBIs. The true freshman logged 12 multi-hit games in 2012, including two four-hit contests. He also drove in multiple runs five times. Goihl, who spent most of the season at designated hitter, stole nine bases this season.

NSIC Coach of the Year
Matt Magers
4th Season
Minnesota State University, Mankato

Matt Magers was voted by his peers as the NSIC Baseball Coach of the Year after leading the Mavericks to a third consecutive NSIC Baseball Regular Season Championship. Magers guided the team to a 39-9 overall and 27-5 record in league action. Named the NSIC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, Magers owns an impressive 161-54 overall record and is 108-20 in league action during his four years with the Mavericks. A native of Gaylord, Minn., Magers played collegiately at South Dakota State from 1995 through ‘97. A three-time all-conference pick, the left-handed Magers was drafted in the 16th round by the Chicago Cubs in 1997 and played for two and a half seasons for Cub affiliates in Williamsport, Pa., (1997) and Rockford, Ill. (1998).
