ROUND 1 RESULTS
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - No. 21 Augustana is in 10th place after shooting a 340 Wednesday at the NCAA Championships being played at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course. Emily Kvidera fired a 7-over-par 79 for the Vikings and is tied for 12th.
No. 1-ranked Nova Southeastern, the three-time defending national champion, leads the 12-team field at 308. NSU also owns the individual leader in Abbey Gittings, who carding an even-par 72 on Wednesday. She's one shot ahead of teammate Daniela Ortiz.
Kvidera was the lone Viking to stay under 80 in the opening round. Allie Ostrander is tied for 27th with a 10-over 82, and Maggie Leland is tied for 37th with a 13-over 85. Jennifer Benoy is tied for 66th (22-over 94), while Kelsey Bortnem is in 70th (31-over 103).
Augustana is making its fifth-straight appearance at the NCAA Championships; the program's best finish came in 2007-08 when Peggy Kirby's team placed eighth.
Winona State junior Paige Schmidt shot an opening round 88 at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship. Schmidt, who qualified for the championship with a seventh place finish last week at the Central Region Tournament, is currently tied for 54th after the opening day.
Southwest Minnesota State University junior Krista Weiszhaar shot a 15-over-par 87, in the opening round of the 72-hole NCAA Division II National Championships held at the par 72, 6,283-yard Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Ky. Weiszhaar finished the first round tied for 47th place in the 70-person field. Abbey Gittings from Nova Southeastern (Fla.) is the individual leader with an even-par 72. A native of Harwood, N.D., Weiszhaar finished the round with one birdie, six pars, six bogeys and five double bogeys.
St. Cloud State senior golfer Emily Kerber (St. Cloud) posted an 88 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s National Golf Championship. The championship is being played on the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course, Louisville, KY. Kerber is tied for 54th place overall after shooting a 45 on the front and a 43 on the backside on the par 72, 6,283-yard layout.
The four-round tournament runs through Saturday.
