No. 16 Augustana (53-10) will face No. 3 Kutztown (Pa.) (50-5) in the first round of the national tournament in Louisville, Ky., on Wednesday at 9 a.m. CDT. The Series
Augustana is 9-1 all-time when facing Kutztown, 2-1 against Valdosta St. and 1-0 against No. 24 UC San Diego. Head coach Gretta Melsted has never faced any of the three teams.

Last time out
The Vikings secured a trip to the national championship with a sweep over Concordia University, St. Paul in the Central Super Regional. Augustana won 9-3 and 10-2 (five innings) in the best-of-three series.

Augustana in the NCAA postseason
Augustana is in the midst of its 20th postseason appearance and first national tournament since 1998. The Vikings’ best finish was a Division II national championship in 1991.Minnesota State beat the Vikings 5-4 last season in the Super Regional to end Augustana’s 2011 postseason run. Head coach Gretta Melsted is in her third tournament appearance  with the team, and the Vikings are 49-38 all-time in NCAA postseason play.
