NSIC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week:
Minnesota State’s Chris Reed (So., Omaha, Neb.) won the shot put at the Iowa State Open with a championship hurl of 54’ 9 1/2”. Reed’s toss provisionally qualified him for the national championships. Reed also finished in seventh-place in a highly competitive weight throw with a throw of 53’7”.
NSIC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week:
MSU Moorhead’s Derek Bredy (Jr., Hoffman, Minn / West Central Area HS) won the 60m dash with a provisionally qualifying time of 6.86 at the Jack Johnson Classic. hosted by the University of Minnesota. Bredy is now tied for eighth in the nation.
NSIC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week:
Winona State’s Michelle Potter (Sr, Winona, Minn.) won the weight throw at the UW-Stout Open with a NSIC leading throw of 59’ 8 ¼” that also moves her up to tenth in NCAA Division II.
NSIC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week:
Minnesota State’s Megan Olson (Sr., Stillwater, Minn.) won the 60-meter hurdles at the Iowa State Open with a time of 8.90.Olson’s championship time marks the second time this season that she has provisionally qualified for the national championships in the event. Olson also finished in ninth-place in the non-seeded high jump with a mark of 1.46-meters.
NSIC Team Notes
AUGUSTANA
Women’s Track: Augustana’s women’s 4X400-meter relay team provisionally qualified on Saturday at the Jack Johnson Invite, clocking in at 3:55.80 for seventh place.
Women’s Field: Katie Guse (High Jump, So., Waseca, Minn./Waseca HS) scored a forth-place finish for Augustana in the high jump at the Jack Johnson Invite. She jumped 5 feet, 3.77 inches.
Men’s Track: Aduo Omot (Sprints, Jr., Worthington, Minn./Worthington HS) had a team-best finish for Augustana last Saturday at the University of Minnesota’s Jack Johnson Invite, provisionally qualifying and placing third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.89.
Men’s Field: Phil Rein (Jumps, Jr., St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral HS/U-Mary/St. Scholastica) tied for a 14th place finish in the men’s long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 8.22 inches at the Jack Johnson Invite. He also tied for 18th in the high jump (6 feet, .83 inches).
Bemidji State
Women’s Track: Ashey Larva (Jr., Floodwood, Minn.) clocked in with a personal-best 29.53 seconds in the 200-meter hurdles to set a Blizzard Open and Fieldhouse record, breaking the previous record of 30.06 in the event. In addition to claiming the only event title for the Beavers, Larva placed third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.73) and finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet 4.25 inches.
Women’s Field: In the pole vault, newcomer Chelsea Borwege (Fr., Faribault, Minn.) cleared a career-best height of 10 feet 1/2 inches while placing second in the event. Borwege was able to post the mark on her second attempt at the elevation, breaking her previous-best vault of 10-00.00.
The Beavers are back in action Jan. 27-28 when they travel to Moorhead, Minn. to compete in the Concordia Multi’s and Cobber Duals.
Concordia-St. Paul
Last weekend the Golden Bears competed in the UW-Stout Open in Menomonie, Wisconsin. The Golden Bears set 26 personal records at the meet and CU’s Nate Thienes set a school record in the weight throw with a distance of 49-11 1/4, besting his own personal best by two feet. Britt Bickert finished second in the shot put. Tolu Ojoyeyi finished second in the 60m dash and Becca Richter finished second in the 5000m run. Esther Jandrich finished third in the pole vault and Diahn Zeon finished third in the 60m dash. The womens 4x200m relay team finished third with a time of 1:48.42.
Men’s Track: Zach Pederson (White Bear Lake, Minn.) is currently ranked 9th in the 60m Hurdles in the NSIC. Last week he ran a PR in the 60m Hurdles at Stout with a time of 8.68.
Men’s Field: Nate Thienes (Lake Elmo, Minn.) is currently 4th in the Weight Throw amongst NSIC throwers. This past weekend he set the school record in the weight throw while besting his personal record by two feet, finishing fifth in the meet.
Women’s Track: Brittany Dohmen (Rogers, Minn.) is currently 15th in the 200m for the NSIC, she ran a 26.0 split in the 4x200m relay and placed 5th in the 200m at Stout this past weekend.
Women’s Field: Britt Bickert (Ripon, Wis.) is currently 6th in the Shot Put for the NSIC. She threw a 2 foot PR in the Shot Put at Stout with a distance of 42-7 and a second place finish.
MINNESOTA DULUTH
The UMD men’s track & field team competed in the Blizzard Open, which was hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The sprint medley relay finished first (200- Mitch Krause (FR), 200- TJ Struss (JR), 400- Danny Badwha (SO), 800- Lou Hughes (SR) with a time of 3:39.89, and narrowly missed the school record of 3:38.41, which has stood since 1993. The relay time established a new meet and facility record.
Men’s Track: Ryan Eason (JR) finished first in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:01.41.
Men’s Field: Ty Fischer (FR) won the long jump with a leap of 6.72 meters (22-00.75). Fischer also placed 3rd in the 60 meters with his time of 7.16
A majority of the men’s team will be competing on Saturday, January 28th at the Warren Bowlus Open, which will be hosted by UW-Stout.
Women’s Track: Morgan Place (Sr.,) for winning the women’s 3,000 at the Blizzard Open with a time of 10:31.47.
Women’s Field: Freshman Amelia Maher won the the high jump with a leap of 4-11.75.
MINNESOTA STATE
Minnesota State competed at the Iowa State Open over the weekend...Chris Reed (Omaha, Neb.) and Megan Olson (Stillwater, Minn.) both provisionally qualified for the national championships in the shot put and 60-meter hurdles respectively...MSU will host the MSU Open & Heptathlon this weekend at Myers Fieldhouse.

MSU Moorhead
The Minnesota State University Moorhead men’s and women’s track and field teams competed Friday at the University of St. Thomas and Saturday at the University of Minnesota Jack Johnson Classic.
On the men’s side MSUM took the top four places in the 55m dash and the top five places in the 200m run. Lincoln Arnold and Aaron Lund finished first and third in the 600 yard run with times of 1.23.12 and 1.24.29, respectively. Clayton Foster won the one Mile run with a time of 4.22.99. Skyler Jackson won both the long and triple jumps, with distances of 6.55m and 12.80m, respectively. Jackson Henrich ended with two fourth place finishes in the weight throw and the shot put with marks of 15.17m and 13.11m, respectively.
Men’s Track: Junior Derek Bredy won the 60m dash with a provisionally qualifying time of 6.86 at the Jack Johnson Classic. Bredy is now tied for eighth in the nation.
On the women’s side Mallory Stier won the weight throw with a mark of 15.09m. She also competed in the shot put, throwing a mark of 11.26 right behind teammate Heather Schultz who threw a mark of 11.42. Freshman Mary Tanoe placed second in the 55m dash with a time of 7.33 and third in the 200m dash with a time of 26.34. Ashley Berg and Jessica Keesling finished first and second in the 55m hurdles with times of 8.48 and 8.72, respectively. Kendra Mooberry and Nicole Hall also finished first and second in the 600m run with times of 1.37.57 and 1.39.28, respectively. Danielle Thompson won the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:49.78.
Northern State
Men’s Track: Jayce Seelig (Jr., Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon HS) led a 1-2 NSU finish in the mile, posting a winning time of 4:30.52 in that event at the NSU Triangular on Saturday. Seelig’s converted time of 4:30.02 ranks him tenth on the NSIC performance list.
Men’s Field: Austin Suther (Sr., Claremont, S.D./Langford HS) was a double-event winner for the Wolves at the NSU Triangular on Saturday. Suther posted a mark of 6.69 meters (21 feet, 11.50 inches) in the long jump, edging teammate Abraham Walker by a centimeter for the win. The senior then took to the track to win the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.99 seconds. Suther ranks fifth in the NSIC in the long jump.
Women’s Track: Jill Schaefer (Jr., Chester, S.D./Chester HS) matched a career best in the 55-meter hurdles on Saturday, winning the event in 8.63 seconds at the NSU Triangular. Her converted time of 9.20 seconds ranks her tenth in the league in the 60 meter hurdle performance list. Schaefer also finished a close second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.08, which also puts her in a tie for tenth on the NSIC performance list.
Women’s Field: Calley Worth (Jr., Gettysburg, S.D./Gettysburg HS) set a new Northern State school record after clearing 3.50 meters (11 feet, 5.75 inches) to win the pole vault by nearly a foot at Saturday’s NSU Triangular. That mark, which meets the NCAA provisional qualifying standard, is third on the NSIC performance list and tied for 15th in the nation.
University of Mary
After a weekend off, the University of Mary returns to action at two different events. On Friday, January 27, the Marauders travel to Bozeman, MT, to face NCAA Division I competition at Montana State University. U-Mary will also participate in the Concordia Invitational in Moorhead, MN, on January 27-28.

ST. CLOUD STATE
St. Cloud State went three directions over the weekend with athletes competing at the Jack Johnson Classic in Minneapolis and the Iowa State Open on Friday and Saturday, and on Saturday competing in the Blizzard Open at UW-Superior.
Men’s Track: Jeremy Davis (Sr., Champlin Park, Minn.) won the men’s 60 meter hurdles in 8.69 and David Braaten (Sr., Cedar, Minn.) won the high jump at a height of 6.03.50 at the Blizzard Open.
Men’s Field: First year thrower Ryan Paulick (Fr., Suamico, Wis.) won the shot put with a personal best throw of 47-03.75. Tendeh Brownell (So., Osseo, Minn.) ran a personal best time of 6.98 in the 60 meter dash to finish second. He also finished second in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.60.
Women’s Track: Becky Schmidt (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) led the way with two first place finishes in the Blizzard Open. Schmidt won the 60 meter dash in 8.10 and was the winner of the long jump with a jump of 17-11.75.
Women’s Field: Rebecca Kitzman (Sr., Verona, Wis.) won the shot put with a throw of 42-08.00 and was fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 47-07.25 at the Blizzard Open.
Wayne State
Men’s Track: Andrew Jansen (Sr., Omaha, Neb.) won the 600 meter dash in a time of 1:23.58, which just missed his previous met record by less than a half second. He also came back to claim second in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.51. He concluded his day with his second gold medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay - running the anchor leg in a time of 51.5.
Men’s Field: Alex Timperley (Sr., Norfolk, Neb.) just missed setting a season best mark in the triple jump with a jump of 46’ 8”, 1 inch shy off his previous best. He also picked up a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 21’ 11 1/2”. He concluded his day running a leg on the winning 4 x 400 meter relay.

Women’s Track: Nicole Brungardt (So., Norfolk, Neb.) opened up her season with a grand entrance winning 3 individual events and running a leg on the winning 4 x 400 meter relay team at the Wildcat Open. Brungardt raced to wins in both the 60 meter dash (7.91, a new meet record) and the 200 meter dash (26.58). She also took her speed to the long jump runway and picked up a win with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark of 18’ 11 1/4”, which is currently 7th in the NCAA rankings. She concluded her day with a 1:02.2 leg on the 4 x 400 relay. She is a returning 3 time All-American and the NSIC Newcomer of the Year in 2011.
Women’s Field: Brianne Hofstetter (Sr., Daykin, Neb.) won the triple jump with her season best mark of 36’ 5 1/2”, which is just 3/4” behind the NSIC leader. She also placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 17’ 2”, just off her season best mark in that event as well.
Winona State
Women’s Field: Michelle Potter (Sr, Winona, Minn.) won the weight throw at the UW-Stout Open with a NSIC leading throw of 18.19m (59’ 8 ¼”) that also moves her up to 10th in NCAA II.
Women’s Track: Cait Dhein (Sr, St. Cloud, Minn.) won the 60 meters at the UW-Stout Open in a time of 7.86 seconds.
