Fla. – Golden Bear freshman Kelly Godwin (left) shot
a 79 on the fourth day of the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships at
Stonebrook Golf Club in Pace, Fla. She finished the four round championship
event with scores of 78-77-79-79=313 (+25) to finish in 26th place out of the
top 48 women's golfers at the NCAA Division II level. Upper Iowa’s Rachael
Schmidt (right) finished the tournament in 32nd place after shooting
rounds of 79-79-77-82=317 (+29).
Florida Tech's Daniela Iacobelli won the NCAA Individual Championship, firing
a 72-74-73-74=293 to finish five over par. Florida Southern captured the NCAA
Team Championship with a 297-296-293-302=1188 and were +36 as a team, ten strokes
ahead of Rollins College.

SPRINGS, Fla. – The National Golf Coaches Association today announced
the 2006-07 student-athlete and coaches awards for Division II Women’s
Collegiate Golf. Winners were recognized at the NGCA Division II Awards Banquet
held in Pensacola, Florida. Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt was named Duramed FUTURES
Tour NGCA Division II All-American Honorable Mention Team. She was also named
to the North Central All-Region Team. Concordia University freshman Kelly
Godwin was selected to the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA)
North Region First Team at the NGCA Division II Awards Banquet.
Godwin,
Concordia's second women's golfer to qualify for the NCAA North Central Regional
Championship event, took third place at the regional and earned a spot to qualify
for the NCAA Division II Championships, one of just 48 women's golfers in the
nation to compete for a National Championship. She becomes Concordia's first-ever
national finalist in women's golf and paced a Golden Bear squad that finished
third at the NSIC Championships in 2006-07.

Iowa - The third and final round of the 2007 NCAA Division II Women's Golf North
Regional took place today at the Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, Iowa. The
University of North Dakota and Truman State University earned team spots while
Rachael Schmidt of Upper Iowa University and Kelly
Godwin of Concordia University-St. Paul have earned individual spots
at the NCAA Division II National Tournament at Stonebrook Golf Club in Pensacola,
Florida from May 9-12.
Upper
Iowa's Rachael Schmidt shot a 78 on the final day of the tournament
to wrap up medalist honors for the tournament. Schmidt finished ten strokes
over par (226) and won by five strokes. Julie Williams of Truman State finished
in second place with an 80 (231, +15), while Kelly Godwin earned
the second individual bid to Nationals with a 78 (236, +20) as she finished
third in the tournament. Godwin played as an individual from Concordia University-St.
Paul.
The temperature was 55 as the first group teed off at 8:30 under a cloudless sky. Temperatures warmed throughout play and reached 66 by the end of round as the sky became partly cloudy. Winds were out of the east and northeast and varied between 12 to 15 mph.
North Dakota fired a 324 (971, +107) on day three to win the North Regional by 21 strokes. Truman State claimed second place, but needed a sudden death playoff hole with Nebraska-Omaha to earn the bid to Nationals. Truman State shot 339 on the day, while Nebraska-Omaha shot 318 to climb back from fifth place into a tie at the end of 54 holes. Both teams stood at 992 (+128). On the sudden death playoff hole, Truman State totaled a 20, while Nebraska-Omaha totaled a 21.
Upper Iowa maintained its hold on fourth and finished with a 332 (998, +134) on day three; just six strokes back of second place. Augustana came into the regional as the #1 team, but struggled on day three shooting a 342 (1004, +140) to finish fifth overall. Winona State remained in sixth place as they shot 334 (1010, +146).
Rounding out the top ten were: Kristi Lucken, North Dakota, 238 (+22); Amanda Young (Individual), South Dakota, 239 (+23); Alexia Gagnon LaPlante, North Dakota, 239 (+23); Krystal Limisiaco, Truman State, 241 (+25); Erin Oakland (Individual), Southwest Minnesota State, 244 (+28); Sarah Lucken, North Dakota, 245 (+29); and Carley Roach, Augustana, 245 (+29).
Waterloo, Iowa - The second round of the 2007 NCAA Division II Women's Golf North Regional took place today at the Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, Iowa.
Temperatures were in the low 60's as the first group teed off at 8:30 under a mostly sunny sky. The warm weather continued throughout play as the temperature rose to 76 by the end of round two. Winds were stronger on day two as they varied between 17 and 21 mph with some gusts reaching 24 mph.
North Dakota fired a 330 (647, +71) on day two to maintain their hold on the top spot, but Truman State was able to pull within six shots of the leaders as they stand in second place after shooting 327 (653, +77). Augustana College jumped from fourth to third on day two by shooting a 333 (662, +86), while Upper Iowa fell to fourth after registering a 340 (666, +90). Nebraska-Omaha finished the day in fifth place after shooting 346 (674, +98) and Winona State is in sixth after shooting 335 (676, +100).

Iowa's Rachael Schmidt continues to lead the field as she shot
75 on day two and sits at 148 (+4) for the tournament. Julie Williams of Truman
State shot the low round of the day as she recorded a 74 and moved into second
place at 151 (+7). Rounding out the top 10 are Krystal Limisiaco, Truman State,
155 (+11); Carley Roach, Augustana, 156 (+12); Kristi Lucken, North Dakota,
157 (+13); Kelly Godwin (Individual), Concordia-St. Paul, 158
(+14); Amanda Young (Individual), South Dakota, 161 (+17); Alexia Gagnon LaPlante,
North Dakota, 161 (+17); Erin Oakland (Individual), Southwest

The third and final round of the North Regional hosted by Upper Iowa University
will take place tomorrow, May 2. Tee times will begin at 8:30 and continue at
nine minute intervals until the last group tees off at 10:00. The top two teams
and the top two individuals not on those teams will earn bids to the NCAA Division
II National Tournament at Stonebrook Golf Club in Pensacola, Florida from May
9-12.

St. Paul, Minn. - The 2006-07 NSIC Women’s Golf All-Conference
team has been announced as voted on by the NSIC Women’s Golf Coaches.
This marks the first year that the women’s golf coaches have voted for
an all-conference team. In prior years it was the top ten finishers at the conference
championship, but the voting allowed for all events from fall and spring to
be taken into account. This year also marked the first year of a split season
championship, with two rounds played in the fall and two in the spring. Upper
Iowa won this year's Championship with a four round total of 1290, edging out
Winona State by three strokes.

Waterloo, Iowa – The first round of the 2007 NCAA Division
II Women’s Golf North Regional took place today at the Sunnyside Country
Club in Waterloo, Iowa.
The conditions were beautiful as the temperature was 68 for the first tee time
at 8:30 under blue skies. The good weather continued throughout play as the
temperature rose to 85 by the end of round one. Winds varied on the day between
6 and 13 mph.
The University of North Dakota fired a 317 (+29) on day one to take a nine stroke
lead over Upper Iowa University and Truman State University who each shot 326
(+38). Nebraska-Omaha finished the day in fourth place after shooting a 328
(+40). Augustana College (SD) shot a 329 (+41) to finish in fifth place, while
Winona State shot a 341 (+53) and ended day one in sixth.

Yankton, S.D. - For the first time this decade a team other than SW Minnesota State was crowned NSIC Women’s Golf Champions. Upper Iowa won the 2006-07 NSIC Women’s Golf Championship as they finished their four rounds with a 1290, edging out Winona State by three strokes. Winona State’s Morgan Proshek was named NSIC Golfer of the Year as she finished the four rounds with a total of 304. Upper Iowa’s Rachael Schmidt and twin sister Rochelle round out the top three finishers with scores of 310 and 311.
The NSIC Women’s Golf Championship consists of 72 holes, 36 being played in the fall and the final 36 in the spring. SW Minnesota State had won the previous six NSIC Women’s Golf Championship prior to this season.

Winona State
Morgan Proshek earned the NSIC Women’s Golfer of the
Year honors after shooting a round of 304 at the NSIC Women’s Golf Championship
held at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton, S.D. Proshek saved her best round for
last as she shot an even par 72 on the final day of the tournament after shoting
a seven over 79 yesterday. Last fall Proshek shot rounds of 79 and 74.

S.D. - Upper Iowa golfed a round of 313 to move into the lead after the third
round of play at the NSIC Women's Golf Championship held at Fox Run Golf Course
in Yankton, S.D. The Peacocks (972) hold a two stroke lead over Winona State
(974) with 18 holes to go. The NSIC Women's Golf Championship consists of 72
holes, with 36 played in the fall and another 36 played in the spring. Six time
defending women's golf champions of SW Minnesota State (993) fell to 21 strokes
back while Concordia-St. Paul (994) sits in fourth place 22 strokes off the
lead.
The Peacocks were led by Laura Taylor's one
over par 73 while sisters Rachael and
Rochelle Schmidt both shot rounds of 76. Winona State was led by Nicole
Wilson round of 75.

Yankton, S.D. - The second half of the NSIC Women’s Golf Championship will tee off at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday & Sunday at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton, S.D. The NSIC Women’s Championship has 36 holes played in the fall and concludes with 36 more holes played in the spring. Following the fall round, Winona State (657) holds a two stroke lead over Upper Iowa (659) and a ten stroke lead over SW Minnesota State (669). SW Minnesota State has won the last six NSIC Women’s Golf Championships.

Upper Iowa Women: Finished second at Missouri Western Invite
on Monday. They finished second by three strokes in a shortened (one day) Augustana
Invite while setting a school record as they shot 311 as a team.
Laura Taylor (5-7, Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) shot a 73 (35-38)
to earn Medalist honors at the Augustana Invite. She also fired an 84 on Monday
at Missouri Western to help the Peacocks take over the second slot in the opening
tournament.
Rachael Schmidt earned Medalist honors at the Missouri Western
Invite and finished in a tie for 2nd at the Augustana Invite with a 75 (38-37).
Upper Iowa Men: Finished in a tie for sixth nine strokes behind the leader in
a shortened (one day) Augustana Invite as they fired a 308.
Brian Peck (6-2, So., Grand Meadow, MN) shot a 75 (38-37) and
finished in a tie for 11th as he led the Peacocks into a tie with Bemidji State
in 6th place.
Tyler Pederson shot a 77 (33-44) to finish in a tie at twenty-third.
Craig Signorin and Kevin Bredy gave the Peacocks two more sub-80 rounds as they
each shot 78.
