NSIC Weekly Soccer Release No. 2

August 30, 2010 | Full Release

Burnsville, Minn. – The NSIC went 1-1 in their first week of action. Wayne State fell 1-0 to Nebraska-Kearney last Thursday before U-Mary knocked off the Lopers two days later 2-0. U-Mary's Jess Curl broke the ice after a scoreless first half, tallying U-Mary’s first goal of the season in the 56th minute in a 2-0 home win in the season-opener over the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Curl, who played just two games for the Marauders last season before suffering an injury, has now scored a goal in all three games she had played in her U-Mary career. Two of the goals are game-winners. Ashley Akers (GK, 5-10, Soph., Casper, Wyo./Natrona County HS) was solid in her first start of the season for U-Mary, making two saves to earn her first career shutout.. Akers toughest stop came late in the game when she punched a shot off a direct kick away from the goal. Defensively, the Marauders limited the Lopers to eight total shots.

The majority of NSIC teams will begin action starting on Thursday, September 2nd. Check out the full release for upcoming game schedule.
