Augustana Finishes 10th, MSU 11th at Nationals

Mesa, Ariz. (Longbow Golf Course) - The Augustana women's golf team finished 10th at the NCAA National Championships in Mesa, Ariz. Freshman Emily Kvidera was the top Augie finisher, earning a seventh place finish. The Minnesota State women’s golf team completed its 2009-10 season with an 11th place-finish at the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship.
The Vikings tallied a four-day team total of 1296 over 72 holes of competition. Nova Southeastern won the tournament with a team score od 1180 while Rollins finished second after carding a 1220.
The Mavericks combined to shoot a 332 in the fourth and final round Saturday. MSU, which carded rounds of 325, 323 and 327 the previous three days, totaled 1,307 strokes for 72 holes.
Augustana's Emily Kvidera faltered a bit on the last day, shooting an 80 for the final round to give her a total of 302. Kate Tobin finished tied for 39th. She shot an 84 on the final day of the tournament to make her total score 319.
Kelly Lauer finished 52nd for the tournament. She carded a 327. Jennifer Benoy was 68th while Kelli Lowry finished 71st. They scored a 353 and a 366, respectively.
MSU’s top individual, senior Kassie Ellsworth (Hayward, Wis.), posted a round of 86 on the 6,159-yard lay-out at Longbow Saturday and finished +39 for the tournament. Ellsworth, who totaled 323 strokes for the four rounds, finished tied for 47th in the final individual standings. Sophomore Lisa Moline (Duluth, Minn.) shot 85 Saturday and completed the tournament with a four-round total of 329, which tied her for 53rd. Sophomore Samantha Bergmann (New Ulm, Minn.) posted an 83 Saturday and tied for 56th with a four-round total of 331. Junior Kathleen Ritter (Red Wing, Minn.) recorded an 80 Saturday and tied for 60th with a 72-hole total of 335. Senior Jaymie Halvorson (Red Wing, Minn.) finished 64th with a four-round total of 342.
Nova Southeastern’s Sandra Changkija claimed the tournament individual title with a 72-hole total of 284.
The Upper Iowa Women's Golf duo of Jill Preeshl and McKenzie Holthaus wrapped up the 2010 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships Saturday afternoon.. Holthaus tied her third round score of 76 during final round action while Preeshl carded a 79. Holthaus recorded a birdie, two bogeys and two double bogeys over the course of the final round as she recorded her 76. The sophomore finished the tournament with a total score of 312 (+28) to finish the four-day event in a tie for 30th place. The other half of the Peacocks' representation at the Championships, Jill Preeshl recorded her third consecutive round of 79 to finish the four-day tournament with a total score of 322 (+38), finishing in a tie for 42nd place of the 72 competitors. The junior recorded a birdie, five bogeys and two double bogeys in the final round of action.

The Vikings shot a team score of 317 in ruond to to total 644 while the Mavericks shot a round of 323 to total 648 for the championship.. Augustana College and Minnesota State women's golf teams qualified for the 2010 NCAA Women's Golf National Tournament, held May 12-15 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. Upper Iowa's Jill Preeshl and McKenzie Holthaus also qualified for the tournament as individuals. Augustana and Minnesota State earned the right to play for the National Championship at the NCAA Super Region #3 Championship held last week at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn. Augustana won the tournament and Minnesota State was third. Preeshl won the individual medalist honors while Holthaus finished sixth.

Lake City, Minn. - Augustana College won the 2010 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Super Region #3 Golf Tournament held at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn. The Vikings shot a three-round total 972 (+108) to win the nine-team event. Western New Mexico shot 979 while Minnesota State rounded out the top three with a 984. All three teams will now advance to the NCAA National Golf Tournament in Mesa, Ariz. on May 12-15.
NSIC Golfer of the Year Jill Preeshl of Upper Iowa won medalist honors as she shot rounds of 80-79-74=233 (+17) to edge Minnesota State's Kassie Ellsworth 80-78-78=236 (+20) by three strokes. Preeshl will advance to the national tournament as an individual along with Nebraska Kearney's Sara Wissing who finished in fifth place with a three round total of 238 (+22). McKenzie Holthaus will also represent Upper Iowa at the NCAA Championships as an individual after tying for fifth overall at the regional. Holthaus climbed 8 spots on the leader board with a 76 on the final day for a 54-hole total of 239.
Augustana's Emily Kvidera shot a tournament low round 73 on day of the tournament and followed that up with a day two round of 79, but faltered on day three with 87 to finish tied for sixth.

Lake City, Minn. - Augustana College opened up a 12 stroke lead over Western New Mexico after day two at the 54-hole NCAA Super Region Three Championships held at the Jewel Golf Course in Lake City, Minn. The Vikings have shot rounds of 321 and 322 for a 643 two round total. Western New Mexico has shot rounds of 329 and 326 for a 655 two day total. Minnesota State shot a round of 334 today to drop into third place, the Mavericks shot 323 the first day to now total 657 for the championship. The final 18-holes are set to be played Tuesday. The top three teams and top three individuals not with a team from each regional will advance to the championship tournament which will be held May 12-15 in Mesa, Ariz.

INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division II Women's Golf Committee has selected the teams and individuals that will compete in the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships. The NSIC will boast six of the nine teams and two of the four individuals in the Central Region Tournament.
The 2010 NCAA Division II women's golf super regional competition will be conducted May 2-4. Each super regional will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the championships.
The 2010 Central Region Tournament will be played at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake, City, Minn. NSIC team participating in the event are Minnesota State, Augustana, Concordia-St. Paul, SMSU, Winona State and Upper Iowa. MSU Moorhead's Chelsey Ourum and St. Cloud State's Lee Zutz will be competing as individuals at the event.
The 2010 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships will be held May 12-15, at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.
The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores for each team will count in each day's total score. The number of participants that qualify for the finals is 72.

Jill Preeshl was voted by the NSIC Coaches as the 2010 Women’s Golfer of the Year. Preeshl had a 78.75 scoring average on the season, tied for the lowest in the Central Region. She had ten top ten finishes in the region this season and finished second at the NSIC Women’s Golf Championship with a three round total of 234 (+21). Preeshl was one of five golfers named to the NSIC Women’s Golf Championship All-Tournament Team.

Emily Kvidera was named the NSIC Women’s Golf Newcomer of the Year after winning medalist honors at the 2009-10 NSIC Women’s Golf Championships. There she shot a three round total of 226 (+13), including a tournament low round of 73 in the final round help the Vikings to the team championship. Kvidera owns a 79.8 average on the season and won the Augustana Invite earlier this season as well as finishing second at the Minnesota State invite. Kvidera was one of five golfers named to the NSIC Women’s Golf Championship All-Tournament Team.

Peggy Kirby was voted by her peers as the 2009-10 NSIC Women’s Golf Coach of the Year. Kirby, in her seventh season at Augustana, helped lead the Vikings to the NSIC Women’s Golf Championships played in Brandon, S.D. this year. This season she has coached two all-conference performers and the NSIC Women’s Newcomer of the Year. Kirby has led the Viking to the NCAA Tournament each of the last three seasons.

Brandon, S.D. (Brandon Golf Course) - Augustana College shot a three round total 950 (319-313-318) to win the 2009-10 NSIC Women's Golf Championship Tournament played April 23-25 at the Brandon Golf Course in Brandon, S.D. The Vikings finished seven strokes ahead of second place Concordia-St. Paul and 24 strokes ahead of third place Minnesota State.
The Vikings were led by Emily Kvidera, as she took home individual medalist honors with a three round total 226 for a +13 over par. She finished eight strokes ahead of Upper Iowa's Jill Preeshl, who shot a three day total of 234 (+21). Laura Petterson of Concordia-St. Paul was third in the final standing with a 237 (+24). CU's Taylor Auman, Winona State's Michelle Narveson and SMSU's Krista Weiszhaar all shot 238 (+25) to join Kvidera and Preeshl on the NSIC All-Tournament Team.
The NCAA will announce the field of the 2010 NCAA Super Region #3 Tournament on Monday, April 26th. The Tournament will be played May 2-4 at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn. The NCAA Finals will be played May 12-15 at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.

Complete Second Round Results of NSIC Women's Golf Championship

Brandon, S.D. (Brandon Golf Course) - Deteriorating weather conditions over the afternoon halted play during the second round of the NSIC Women's Golf Championship, leaving four groups without final scores for the day. The four groups completed their round on Sunday morning before beginning the final 18-holes of the women's championship.
After completing the round Sunday morning Augstana College holds a 13 stroke lead over Concordia-St. Paul with 18-holes to go. The Vikings shot rounds of 319 and 313 for a two day total of 632 (+64). Concordia-St. Paul had rounds of 325 and 320 for a 645 (+77). The final 18-holes of play take place Sunday morning at the Brandon Golf Course.
Weather Keeps 2nd Rd Unfinished at Women's Golf Championship
Brandon, S.D. (Brandon Golf Course) - Deteriorating weather conditions over the afternoon halted play during the second round of the NSIC Women's Golf Championship, leaving four groups without final scores for the day. The four groups will head out Sunday morning to finish up their second rounds at 8:00 a.m. before beginning the final 18-holes of the women's championship.
Augustana, Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State, the three leading teams after day one, were unable to complete their rounds. For the teams that were able to complete the first 36-holes the team standings are: WSU- 660, SMSU- 664, SCSU- 686, UIU- 690, BSU- 708, WSC- 716, MSUM- 719, UMC- 818, NSU- 856.
Complete second round results will be posted tomorrow morning with complete championship results coming later in the afternoon.
Augustana Leads NSIC Women's Golf Championship After Rd 1

Brandon, S.D. (Brandon Golf Course) - Augustana College leads the 2009-10 NSIC Women’s Golf Championship after the first of three rounds played at the Brandon Golf Course in Brandon, S.D. The Vikings shot a +35 319 to lead the championship by six strokes over second place Concordia-St. Paul (325 +41).
Augustana's Emily Kvidera led the field as she fired a +6 round of 77 on the day. Teammates Kate Tobin and Kelly Lauer finished the day in a five way tie for second place as they both shot +8 rounds of 79.
The 2009-10 NSIC Women's Golf Championship will be determined by three rounds of 18 played on April 23-25, 2010 in Brandon, S.D. The fall portion of the championship was cancelled due to unplayable conditions at Hillcrest Golf Club in St. Paul, Minn.

Laura Petterson captured medalist honors at the 2010 Maverick Invitational at The Jewel Golf Club over the weekend. She set a school record for a 36-hole tournament by scoring 150 while her second round score of 73 was an 18-hole team low for the 2009-10 season. Playing on what has become a nationally competitive women’s golf program over the past few years, Petterson became just the fifth CU women’s golfer to achieve an 18 hole round score of 73 or better. It was the first time in her young career that she has captured medalist honors and she is the only current member of the Golden Bear women’s golf squad to take home medalist honors this season. Her 80.7 season stroke average is tops on the active squad, leading the team in top-5 finishes (4) and top-10 finishes (5).

Emily Kvidera earned medalist honors at the Augustana Spring Invitational on Saturday and Sunday this week, helping the Vikings to a second place finish. Kvidera was tied for fourth after Saturday’s round in which she shot a 75. On Sunday, she improved that score by one stroke, shooting a 74 to end up with a total score of 149. Her total score actually tied her with both Taylor Drenttel and Katie Schenfeld of Gustavus, but she shot the lowest score of the day, giving her the tie-breaker. Drenttel shot a 75 while Schenfeld carded a 76.

Kate Tobin claimed medalist honors at the Wayne State Spring Invitational in the Vikings’ first meet of the spring season. Tobin fired rounds of 76 and 77 to finish with a 36-hole total of 153 two win the individual crown by 3 strokes. Tobin’s effort helped Augustana finish third in the team standings. Augustana will compete at the Upper Iowa Invitational this week.

St. Paul, Minn. – The NSIC Women’s Golf Fall Championship has been cancelled for this weekend due to unplayable conditions at Hillcrest Golf Club in St. Paul, Minn. Snowfall at the course and uncertain conditions for Sunday brought on the cancellation of the first 36-holes of the 72-hole championship. The two rounds of 18 that were schedule for Saturday and Sunday will not be made up as the NSIC Women’s Golf Championship will be determined by two rounds of 18 on April 24-25, 2010 in Brandon, S.D.

Taylor earned her first medalist honor of the year with a two-day total of 145 by following her first day even par 73 with a one under par 72 to win the UNO Fall Classic by six strokes. The senior finished tied for third place in par 3 scoring with a 2.88 average. Taylor also ended the tournament in first place in par 4 scoring at 3.94. She tied for third at 5.10 in par 5 scoring. Taylor led the field in birdies with 9 while tying for 8th in pars with 20. The top four Peacock golfers all placed in the top 20 as Upper Iowa claimed the runner up spot at the UNO Fall Classic. Upper Iowa was fifth in par 3 scoring with a 3.50 average, second in par 4 scoring with a 4.59 average, and second in par 5 scoring with a 5.48 average. The Peacocks carded the second most birdies (19) and the fourth most pars (81).

LAKE ELMO, MN -- Winona State University fought off a challenge from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and won the two-day, 36-hole, Wildwood Lodge Invitational held at the Tartan Park Golf Course.The Warriors, led by meet medalist Michelle Narveson, finished off the second day, on the par 72, 5,955yard course, with a 320 total, which combined with their first-day total of 319 gavme them a 639, just one stroke ahead of UNO.
The Warriors and Mavericks came into the second day of the 13-team event tied with 319 totals.
Narveson, who was the individual leader after the first day, struggled a bit with a 78 after opening with a 74. But her 152 total was good enough to win the 73-player meet by one stroke.
Courtney Sovereign came up with a 77 to cut two strokes off her first day and finished in fifth place with a 156, four strokes off the pace set by her teammate.
Rounding out the Top 15 finishes by the Warriors was Emma Schmitz, who tied for 14th. Schmitz also had a better second day, as she came in with a round of 80, three strokes better than her first 18 holes of play.

Martin shared top honors at the Augustana Invite this weekend as her steady play brought in a nine over par and a two-day score of 151. Martin paced the Golden Bears to their first tournament victory of the season, while defending their title from the Augustana Fall Invite a season ago. She set the pace for the Golden Bears to break two school records during the Augustana Invite CU broke their single round record by shooting a 305 in round 2. In the process, the Golden Bears broke a two-round school record with their two-day total score of 612.

Ellsworth carded rounds of 75-76 for a 36-hole total of 151 to earn a share of medalist honors at Augustana Invitational in season-opening action for the Mavericks. MSU finished second in the team standings.
